Hi all,

just a heads-up that I have now posted a second map in the Anmar Map Repository.
This one goes all the up to, but doesn't QUITE reach, Blackstone.

I hope it all helps.

Enjoy.

Erase, erase erase..scrub scrub scrub

Well I stuck a pipe cleaner in one ear and out the other. Then I wiggled it around and around. I think I have a clean slate to put the map of Anmar on.

I already had a map of the geography of Anmar in my mind from reading the story to date. I could not get the new map in my head until I got rid of the old one. To me rivers flow from the North to the South not the opposite as shown on the map.

Nevertheless I do appreciate the effort that went into the two maps so far, and look forward to MORE.

I assume that the orange lines are an indication of the roads, trails and tracks between the various settlements (straightened out in some cases). Looking forward to the following chapters and additional maps.

Orange/red...

More specifically, they represent the Chivan Trade routes and other Major roads.

LOL.

The story quite clearly stated that the rivers flow opposite to what we are used to. It also said that if you go far enough upstream it eventually swings back around to flow more the way we're used to. I imagine that when the rift valley formed it really completely changed that rivers route and that if they'd do yet a little more exploration they might find a "grand canyon" where the river used to flow.

That said... You do realize WHY rivers REALLY flow the way they do, right? It's not about eating soggy watermelons at all. (A popular way of remembering the cardinal directions is "Never Eat Soggy Watermelons".)

Rivers strictly flow from highest elevation to lowest. In the case of the Nile for a famous earth example this is almost directly from south to north.

In some cases this can become a very tricky thing to detect, however... Because it's the water channel elevation that matters, not necessarily even the land around it. Thus the water problem in the Blackstone Vale... Most of the water in that lake is actually flowing out into and under the "Stone Sea" because the water channel is formed by whatever heavier rock there is underneath all that limestone.

Red roads are indeed ....

... as Payter pointed out, the trade routes, which were built by the Chivans many hundreds of years before and, as mentioned a few times in the story, their preferred method of roadbuilding was to use straight lines wherever possible. Certain geographic features like oceans, lakes and rivers, rockfaces, gradients and mountain passes all tried to put the Chivans off, but they just went back to being straight as soon as they could.

Will there be...

A map of Blackstone as well at some point?

Abigail Drew.

Blackstone map is ...

... on its way, but will probably take a few days more.
I expect to have it done definitely by next weekend ....

Yes.

But where has it been posted? I can't find it anywhere in the gazeteer

Not in the Gazetteer

The repository of maps is posted at the very beginning of The Anmar Tales (S.E.E.)

Posting of auxiliary stuff

Things like universe pages and maps are not always given room on the front page which is for stories, normally.

Very few stories being posted lately, so I decided to allow such creative but non-narrative items to stay up instead of being "unstuck" from the front page.

Normally, the thing to do with such things is to post them using ++Organizer as universe pages or section pages instead of posting them as Fiction.

Hugs,
Erin

The maps are a nice idea. I remember the ones from Tolkien's...

... Rings trilogy.

Please do include a map key identifying what colors/lines/symbols mean what.

IE like on a basic highway map where a double strong line in varying colors means a divided highway/freeway or toll road. A single strong line is a paved two lane road. A dashed line is a gravel or sand roads. A green triangle is a wayside/small park and so on.

Or like in the quadrangle maps that hunters/hikers/military use with certain marks meaning swamp, dunes, forest, wells and springs, agricultural land, cliffs and so on. And where north and magnetic north are and a scale of distance.

Just some ideas to help you. Don't need all that detail. Just enough to help carry the storylines.

Liked the old time feel you have tried to give the maps what with the puvils or whatever creatures drawn on it. Much like sea serpents or other fanatical creatures where drawn on mariners maps hundreds of years ago.

Nice compliment to the tales themselves.

Now get Garia and Keren *hitched* and her *up the spout* with future princes and princesses ASAP!

Then John gets blue in the face, passes out and FALLING on his face breaking his nose and his brain? makes him start breathing again. However, because of the broken nose his face remains blue from the bruses when Penny posts her next episode...

Well, no...

Everyone knows John's actually an AI. ;)

one-thousand nine hundred and thirty five...

one-thousand nine hundred and thirty seven... no six.

Ahh

He must be one of those Genuine, Imitatation AI's then (as advertised on T.V.)....:)

edit: By the way John, you might want to hide your hardware since you have now implied that Penny sits on a nest and lays S.E.E. eggs...John in Wauwatosa holding his breath until the nest SEE chapter
