I'm not sure how many of you play video games, but for those that do, I thought you might like to know about a kickstarter project that is about to expire (5 more days), and hasn't reached it's target goal:(

The project is led by a transgendered woman, Dani Landers, who has dreamed up a very lovely story involving a mother and her child. The artwork looks incredible, and, while the team is small (4 people, I think), it looks like it will end up being something that people who enjoy adventures will have fond memories of long after they have played the game.

As far as I can tell, the game will have no transgender content, but I thought folks might want to support her efforts even if they weren't so much interested in the game itself, but in offering someone who has struggled (and probably still struggles) with the things many of us here are either struggling with or have given long, hard thought about. Or, just because it was something that was so different from the standard fantasy in which a man conquers the world by big muscles and a shiny sword/gun/racecar/whatever.

Kickstarter (and it's ilk) allow independent groups to realize their dreams without having to resort to the conventional places for investment by appealing to the people who are likely to use the product themselves, rather than the middlemen who wish to maximize their profits. The idea is that artists can remain truer to their vision.

If you are curious about supporting the project, you can find their kickstarter page here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1376061185/bloom-memorie...

too bad

We cant leave a msg for Dani Landers.

I do enjoy games but third person overview games such as this is not my thing at all. Then again since my bf and I usually play coop fps games there might be other reasons for that....

identity

I'm not sure if it's correct to call Dani Langers a transgendered woman, since on the Kickstarter Dani uses male pronouns.

Dani Landers: Art, Writing, Design, Marketing
The creative force behind Bloom, Dani seems to write about himself in the 3rd person a lot ~_~

Dani Landers lives in Los Angeles and has worked on a variety of projects over the years while picking up a range of skill-sets all along the production pipeline. This means he is able to step in and fill any creative job that needs to be done (such as video editing, writing, effects, and even modeling and rendering).

Dani presents as unambiguously female, so I don't know if he prefers to identify as genderqueer or if it's just a legal issue where some paperwork says she's still officially male and some lawyer advised her to use male pronouns to avoid accusations of fraud.

Thanks for sharing this

Thanks for sharing this link... I checked out the kickstarter page and while I would love to invest in the game... even just as a show of support... I have no money at the moment.
(and even if I did, alas, it does not look as though the project will hit its goal)

I really enjoyed reading the Penny Arcade article concerning the game.

I find that I (as someone who could not pass in public... and have only recently begun dressing seriously) have used video games as an outlet for any of my frustration for some time, and... well it's nice to know others out there are doing the same.
