Well, at long last, the movie I have been waiting for since I heard it was going to BE a movie, came out for rental today. The Avengers! I have to say, in all honesty, that it not only lived up to it's hype, but surpassed even my high expectations. To see, on the screen, the heroes I grew up reading about in the "comic books" and witness the incredible effects and acting displayed by the cast, just blew me away.

This is one I will buy for my personal collection. The action, the HUMOR, the whole thing, was done perfectly for me. I look forward to the sequel, even though it will probably be a couple of years before it hits the theaters. Oh there WILL be a sequel! The very last shot in the movie was of Thanatos, the power behind Loki in this movie. I think the only thing that disappointed me was the lack of real power shown by Loki. He was the master of trickery and he used magic to cause havoc. None of his "real" forte was shown in this movie, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the movie as a whole too much.

I've always been critical of people who criticize a movie, claiming to be purists and bitching about how the movie wasn't true to the book/comic book/whatever. I enjoy a movie for what it IS, not for what I think it SHOULD have been.

If you love superheroes, if you love action, if you just love the genre itself, either go see this movie, or rent it, or buy it. I give it 4 3/4 stars out of five.

...I was talking to someone today.... I said I'm considering having Joss Whedon write the rest of my life for me. The down side is that I might get cancelled prematurely!

of CGIs and special effects, prefer films with acting in them.

Just a comment on films with CGI and SFX

This movie has plenty of acting and good acting at that. You might complain about how many special effects are in the film but they didn't put those in and leave out the acting.

In general, the actors in a film usually do at least a good or workmanlike job. What is often lacking is script in an action film. This one has as good a script as one is likely to see in a movie aimed at a general movie going audience. There are nine significant roles and all nine have memorable lines. That's an accomplishment.

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.

That would be either Hawkeye,

the archer, or Natasha, the Russian assassin/spy.

Are you talking about Marvel :The Avengers movie that came out in theaters like 6 months ago?

I'm confused.

Yes!

DVD/Blu-ray release today. I was lucky. My birthday falls in the first week of May. Often I get treated to the summer blockbusters for my present. This year we saw the Marvel Marathron with all the Ironman, Thor, and Cap movies ending with the midnight premier of the Avengers. Heck I even won a door prize of one of the two sided Mylar movie posters. Is that cool or what!

I very much enjoyed the movie and gave it 9.7 on the 1 to 10 scale. Joss did as good a job as was possible given the nature of the job. Can he make the magic again for Avengers 2? That's a toughie! Studio hovering over your shoulder backseat directing as well as the hype, pressure and high expectations.

My forecast is that it'll be good, but not even Joss can please everyone. He's good, but not that good. :)

Besides we have a line of new Marvel movies in the works. Lets see how they do.

As a said purist, I have been

As a said purist, I have been reading comics since before I could walk. I was able to appreciate this movie for what it was, a bang up action flick with great characterization that set up the Marvel universe for a whole new generation. Well done Joss. All of the characters actors fit the roles perfectly Downey as Stark is brilliant and Johansson as Black Widow uh yum. I would and do recommend this and all the set up movies that go with it.
