Very sad news... an icon of the Space age passs
AS the caption pic on one of the ICANHASCHEESEBURGER sites says, they landed on the moon with less computing power than your cell phone.
Hard to beat the Mark I Eyeball and good hard smart work.
Neil will be missed.
And a quieter, more private man after the limelight than one might have thought.
Refused to cash in on his fame.
Classy.
A difficult act to follow.

Paradigm Shift
I remember sitting watching the whole landing on TV and, at the same time looking out the window at the moon and knowing that I was taking part in history.
The world changed that day; and the name everyone will remember is Neil Armstrong (No disrespect to Buzz Aldrin or Michael Collins).
A thoroughly nice man who was totally embarassed by the almost hysterical fuss made about it all at the time. He was just doing his job.
Truly the "Right Stuff".
The world needs more Neils; if we are ever to step "Beyond"
You will be missed Neil; by everyone who sat and watched in 1969; and everyone who dreamed of "elsewhere"; both before and after; since you were the first to Do; not just Dream.

I just read this sad news on the BBC after getting back home. :-(
Armstrong may have walked on the moon before I was born but he has always been an inspirational figure to me. His quiet demeanor, general nice guyness and refusal to take up the range of offers to exploit his fame has always earned my respect. I also owe Armstrong and all the other Apollo astronauts a debt of gratitude for getting me interested in space and sci-fi and just as importantly for providing me with a reasonably gender neutral set of options for toys as a child. It's difficult to overstate how important that was for me at times growing up. Disappointingly we have yet to follow the Apollo astronauts back to the moon but I guess it does still allow me to dream of being the first girl on the moon even now.
The death of Neil Armstrong is a sad loss and he will be greatly missed. Hopefully, he will also always be remembered for the inspiration he was and his accomplishments.

Eighteen years
Neil was exactly eighteen years older than me, probably the most famous person with whom I share a birthday. He's always been special to me for that and other reasons.
Goodbye Neal, your name will be long remembered as the first human to touch another world. Very few have ever reached so high or been so humble while doing it.

Today one of the first things i saw when i logged on was "Neil Armstrong Dies at 82", that pretty much rocked me, but just under that was something that lessened the blow and made me grin... "Mars Rover returns first ever live pictures of Martian surface"
A true American Hero dies, but humanity's drive for exploration remains.

I was fortunate to be just old enough to really appreciate
... the whole thing. I believe this singular event inspired a whole generation of kids to become engineers.

Transformers Dark side of the moon.
Buzz aldrin actually played a part in this movie and Neil armstrong was supposed to play himself but couldn't. Still when you think of how the names have been entrenced even in fantasy its a name that will not be forgotten for a long time.

Okay not sure of the spelling but I heard that story some time back and if I'd had a drink at the time I would have toasted Mr Armstrong, it did make me laugh and appreciate a guy with style. cheers matey.

How many of us
How many of us would have the guts to do what they did by landing on the moon not knowing if they would be able to liftoff with the small engine that they had. Think about the computors they had then our cell phones have more power.
I was 21 at the time and the world stopped and watch live as he stepped off the landeronto tranquility base & like JFK most of us know where we where when he made that famous leap onto the moon
