I don't have NEARLY enough on my plate, if you listen to Maureen (my Muse).

With 'Amazon', 'Ma'at' (rewrite and new chapter), four new stories, and the odd editing efforts, Maureen has decided to delve back into my college days for more ideas.

"Wayyyy back in the old days" I was one of those who was into "Dungeons and Dragons." I was fortunate enough to know a couple of good DMs (Dungeon Masters) who had imagination and patience -- and evil; don't forget the evil.

Along the way, I ran across "Traveller" which provided hours of entertainment. (If you haven't heard of it, Wikipedia has a quick summary at Traveller.

Each had unique concepts, but are incompatible.

Until Maureen decided I really didn't need any sleep. She decided that what I needed was a whole new reality to play in.

So, rather than working on anything already in hand, she's threatening me with insomnia until I at least get the introductory story done.

It could be worse. At least I get to destroy Topeka, Kansas.

Pain?

Heather,

A manic Muse is minor compared to some issues I could be having. I'm grateful she's talking to me again. I do wish she'd be a bit more considerate of workday vs. weekend time.

Ack!

Shhh! Don't let her hear you!

Don't get her angry. You wouldn't like her when she's angry!

I do not understand role play...

I may not have the gene for it. I also don't understand video games and stuff like it, thought I have thought that Cos play could be fun. I sometimes wonder if I am a role play retard?

No one has ever offered to help me with this. :(

Role play can be like writing

tmf's picture

Role play can be like writing a story with several writers and a lot of improvisation.
You need the right mix of participant and a word you like.

I do like some RPG, but not all of them are for me. For the video game, not my cup of tea.
I'm curious about the Cos play thing, not sure I'm brave enough to try it :(

You should do, Gwen

After all, it's what a significant portion of this site's users are doing, isn't it? Those of us who are not in your own position have to 'role play' being men for at least part of their lives.

What you really mean, of course, is role playing games. That's a whole other issue which I'm not really qualified to ramble on about. Role playing can go from acting on a stage or on TV to cosplay and LARP (live action role play - you know, those Civil War re-enactors) to Angry Birds on your smartphone to throwing dice in a darkened room with friends to...

All of those just put you into the position of doing something you wouldn't normally do during the course of your average day. You 'pretend' to be something or someone else for the duration. I think that's fairly normal human behavior but of course there are huge variations from person to person. What floats your boat won't float someone else's.

Perhaps other people may give you ideas about different role play options you might consider.

Topeka?

Surely Cleveland Ohio is a better choice.

Warming up your 20 sided dice are we?

Cleveland?

Too easy a target.

Topeka is out in relatively flat terrain, so I can get a nice BIG circle of destruction.

I won't be using any dice -- though I do have the books for Traveller, D&D, and EPT. The games just got my "I wonder how to...?" brain cells going.

You know, being Ohioan

I find that comment totally unbearably...hilarious! >=D

Actually in the Wyld Universe I took out Columbus. Saless destroyed Bakersfield, but I think my city wins for having a bigger population (yay!). Cleveland is just too easy, and think, where do you think the drifters would go next? Huh Michigan boy?

Actually . . . .

John is from Wisconsin, not Michigan. That reminds me, saw a book in the clearance rack the other day. Something like "Twenty Exciting Facts About Wisconsin". I would have bought it but once I got past the title page the rest of the pages were blank.

Wayward Muses

Oh, yeah, got one of those, too. Pesky thing won't let me concentrate on one thing, she has to go stirring the pot and finding other goodies.

Now, if I only had the ability to split myself into seven or eight. Perhaps like Bailey Summers seems to do...

Too true!

I think the Muses have a convention every so often to swap ideas on how to abuse their authors.
