A few days ago, Sue Brown blogged about having had to put her cat, Biscuit to sleep. I commented about having a week earlier having to put my cat, Bleu to sleep, and many other commented as well.

I know it has been hard for me to face my loss, too.

This morning I was reading through an ebook, and in one short story about a Labrador Retriever from puppyhood until it could not longer move and had to be put down, I found a poem that took me a long time to read through because of the tears it brought to my eyes. I think it helped me and maybe it will help others here who have had to face saying goodbye to a faithful animal friend.

I looked online to make sure it was not something written for that story, and found it many places, all indicating the author is unknown. But this one is easier to read.

How is it the dog's fault, in either case, Laika?

You said:

"But what about Hitler's dog?
If there's any justice Blondie is suffering eternal torment in animal hell, with Checkers."

I don't follow your reasoning.

Even as much as I dislike many so called vicious breeds, I honestly believe that viciousness is not all that inbred, but more something that was trained into them by anti-social 'owners'.

APRIL FOOL!

Sorry. Considering the date I didn't think anyone would take my preposterous statement at face value. I actually love dogs, and cats, and all the other sorts of animals people bond with. They're a blessing. My loving feline "children" Gojira and Kiki were about the best thing that ever happened to me and I miss them terribly. And Blondie, the poor dear, was one of the final casualties of that madness, sacrificed by the humans she trusted along with Joseph and Magda Goebbels' daughters and son. Apologies for my poor taste.

Sorry, I didn't see any humor in it.

I sort of wondered, though, seeing the name you use here.

I've often wondered why you chose the name.

Holly, I've always thought

That the real fool in an April "Fools" joke was the person playing the joke. I consider April 1st to be the worst day of the year, even edging out April 15th.
