11 year-old tgirl to be committed to mental institution

News that an 11 year old trans girl in Berlin, Germany, is about to be committed to a mental institution by local authorities – following intervention by her absent father – has prompted grave concern by the International LGBTQ Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO).

According to a statement released by IGLYO yesterday, the girl, elsewhere identified only as “Alex” (Alexandra) lives with her mother, who supports her gender expression. However, the girl’s father, now divorced and separated from her mother, strongly rejects this view of his daughter’s gender identity and wants to force her to grow up as a boy.

If all else fails, there is a real and present possibility that pressure from her father, supported by the Youth Welfare Office in Berlin, means that Alex will shortly be confined in a closed ward of a psychiatric institution as part of a process designed to ensure that “he” returns to “normality”.

I also think that the father might also be doing this to get back at his ex, I think he doesn't care about the child at all.

I would tend to agree with your assesment. Based on what the article tells of the background, the father left the marriage because he could not cope with the gender identity expressed by his child. According to that factoid (is it really a fact? or is that just a better write-up?) the father would be guilty of abandonment. The fathers reaction (and it seems to be a re-action) and motivation could be based on the statement published by Alex in a public forum. Though I am not discounting him wanting to get back at his ex. And based on what is contained in the article, I would second that he never really cared about his child at all.

On the other hand, I do not think it was wise for Alex to publish her threat of suicide as a presure to recieve hormone treatment. If her mother is really as understanding and supportive as the article makes her out to be, I would think that she would be actively involved in the treatment of her child. And that would also include the possibilities of hormone treatment.

That rant about suicide could also easily be a result of entitlement mentality: "I have my rights! I want my rights NOW! And damn the obligations!" Many young people today have no idea what the meaning of obligations is, nor do they know what it means to follow rules and wait patiently for what they would like to have.

Even if the child is confused and needs proper counseling and care to determine if s/he is truly Transgendered, commiting a child to a psychiatric ward is truly horrible and scary. Hopefully, this institution will place the poor child in a safe, (if such is possible) ward. If not, the assaults the child will suffer, through physical, sexual and verbal, will be life threatening.

Shame on the father and shame on the authorities.

Unfortunately she is living in Berlin, where the "specialists" at the Charité, the largest university hospital, still believe that transgenderism can be "cured" :(
