Zut Alors! Changes are 'appenin'

Printer-friendly version

It finally looks like there's going to be some movement in my life, of the positive sort.

My son and I have been discussing for several months how (and when) he would relocate South to live with me and his little sister. The main problem has been accommodation, he needs his own room and that's simply not possible as things stand.

However, our discussions started to turn towards specifics and logistics so some serious thinking had to be done. I have spent the past week looking at houses, and we'd need 3 bedrooms. Trouble is, I have the remains of compensation from my last job (2 years ago) and only have state benefits for income. I have too much money to qualify for total state-financed life-support and not quite enough to buy for cash. Without a real salary I can forget a mortgage or a home loan.

Roll forward to today. I was told after lunch that I had been short-listed for a job I went for, interviews are later this week. The salary isn't brilliant but I'd get some state top-up (tax credits). I also have an application for another post brewing and a few more ideas/feelers.

Anyway, the salary for one of these posts would pay rent and there's a 3 bed flat available for £525 that is 5 mins walk from here (mother's) and 5 mins closer to the secondary school (daughter starts there in September). I figure I can afford a year's rent before having to dig too deep into the funds and hopefully get into employment as well.

That way, my son could be with me by Easter. He's visiting in Feb for a week so will be asked directly what he wants to do. The timing is important, when he returns to school after half-term he will be asked to choose his 'O' Level subjects that are normally studied in Years 10 & 11. It is also quite common to start the courses in the last term of Year 9 (after the Easter break) so he has to move schools by Easter! No pressure then.

That's the plan anyway, I might not find out about the job until next week but I already have the mobile number of the person who's interviewing me (and her home email address!) so might be a pest all weekend. Oh, she's known me for 3 years.

All of this means that my alter-ego is firmly in the closet again.

What did Gandalf say about tears?

...I'm thrilled with your news and you are in my prayers always along with your precious son and daughter. I hope things work out swiftly and you finally get both of your children under the safe haven of your roof! All my best, dearest of dears.

Crying is all right in its own way while it lasts. But you have to stop sooner or later,
and then you still have to decide what to do. ― C.S. Lewis

Thank you

Dear Aunt Andrea & everyone

Thank you for your continued moral support, at times over the past 3 years it has felt like a bottomless pit, and I was in it!

I just re-read my previous post on the subject from March of last year, in it I mentioned the joint custody being a useful defence. The aunt did indeed try for Guardianship in December and I fought off her solicitor with a few letters and a phone call to social services. The existing court order was key, no changes were needed. Best of all, I didn't involve my solicitor and saved lots of money, that I can spend on the children instead,

Thank you Topsy,

About time that you were dealt a decent hand, you are the bravest of the brave and more
of a mother to your children than their birth mother ever was.My prayers are for you.

Fingers crossed

I'm sincerely hoping that it all comes together, job, family and a home - that would be wonderful to hear from you.

Take care and good luck.

I'm so glad for you.

I've followed your fight for custody and I'm really pleased for you. It would truly be brilliant if all this came off, and from where I'm reading, it looks as though it might.

Good luck girl.

Hugs.
