This blog is a little explanation for
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/29402/playing-part-cou... - it was a little bit unorthodox, I have to say, putting a story in the comments section, but...

Do you remember when you were a kid, when you'd spend a lot of time arguing with your friends things only kids found important, like about comic books?   Like who would win in a fight - Superman or the Hulk, or if Batman really deserved to be called a superhero, or doesn't Wonder Woman feel cold in that outfit, or what is it with the skintight costumes?   You know? Important things?

I didn't have many friends growing up, except when I was real young.   But can you really say that kids you knew when you were like seven or eight were "real" friends when you lose track of them soon after hitting puberty, and your focus changes -when comic books and other things become less important, like what's on TV start to have less significance than wearing the right thing to school so you don't get laughed at, or like when the exploits of comicbook superheroes become less important as knowing the latest schoolyard gossip.

Most of us are like that, I guess.   It's what people call "growing up" - when you start leaving your... kid stuff for other more adult stuff.   I remember that quote that goes - "when I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."

There are, however, those that have difficulty doing so.

There are a few BCTS readers out there who are very "into" the whole comic book and superhero genre.   I have recently (as in just tonight) had a run-in with a couple.   Virtual-wise only, of course - just via email.   Anyway, one of them, one of the more opinionated and vociferous critics I've met in BCTS, had a lot to say about my writing, and why I should have stayed away permanently, and how my writing "leaves much to be desire".   (that was an exact quote, as in exact)   He/she was actually the person who made me decide to leave that first time.    In fact this is the first time I've heard from him/her ever since then.   He/she also said that I "do not do superheroes injustice." (That is also an exact quote, but from the context, I think he/she meant it to have the opposite meaning.)

Ah, well.

I also had another email from another comicbook fan earlier, who had some positive stuff to say for a change.   But he had a particular concern about the just-posted story.   After a few email exchanges, we had talked it over (it's difficult to conduct a "discussion" via email, you know) and I was convinced to make an addition to the story. (see http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/29402/playing-part-cou... )

It is unusual to use BCTS's comments section to make an addition to a story, but he explained it wasn't good to add this to the story itself as it might have an impact on Danny's "real" story, but then if this wasn't posted, the ending for the Counterfeit Crusader story won't work (y'know, Ray giving Danny the tasers and other stuff).   As you see, my new friend reeeally takes his comicbook and superhero stuff seriously...

Anyway, I guess I agreed with what he said, and I agreed to go his way this time, hence the just-posted comment-as-story.   It's somewhat akin to being dragged away by a bunch of kids to play with them in the yard, and to do things their way for a change.

But what I really took away from our email exchange wasn't about anything to do with the story.   It was that it's sometimes good to indulge your inner child sometimes and go back to kid stuff, and that it's always nice to make a new friend. I hope I hear from him again.

Well for one

I'm a fan of that story you put up and it was a nice little romp. You're an excellent writer and I've enjoyed Danny as much as Tuck by Ellen Hayes. As to the guy/girl whose been giving you repeated grief he/she needs to get over themselves. I generally don't like fan-fics of any sort and I'm not a follower of the retcon stuff but there's no need to bash it or you because of....well I'm not sure what their beef was.

Anyway fans can be rabid and trolls will often disguise themselves saying they're doing this again...for whatever the new reason is.

Sorry, babbling.

Bobbie-C You're a great Authoress, tones of people love what you do and I'm one of them.

I note the 8 yo bit, sort of how I look at it. Comic books and related I mean. I know not who, nor do I care unless they wish to take a shot. I will not bow down, I assure you. Game whoever?

You, Bobbie, do what you do and don't sweat the botherers. I'm about done for different reasons. But I'm open to a challenge, you game wimpy?

Heck, some are still into comic books.

So glad you are back ... Arguing about COMICS?????

Oh come on, Bobbie-c's critic, get a life!

Comics? You are giving her grief over freaking comics?

Get Real! It's fiction.

But Star Trek classic, THAT's worth arguing over.

-- grin --

Seriously, sort of, this is fanfic/retcon of comic book characters. This is not high philosophical concepts or even politics.

Enjoy or not but don't get in a huff.

I agree it can be fun and informative to see how the ret cons and such differ from *canon* comics but given the contradictions in *canon* comics it ain't easy.

-- smile --

Peace!

Oh, and read Danielle's, Little Katie's and our other fine but sadly underappreciated authors here if you can find the time. You won't be disappointed and they will be encouraged to keep posting.

I like the clever but easy to read retcons and the near Russian-length novels of say, some of Danielle's stories. "Variety is the spice of life" is sooo true.

He should get a life

As if he is the know all and end all and the arbitrage of all that is story telling. I suggest you just block him and force him to be on a public forum so we can all then ridicule him. Hopefully then we can all block his sorry face or Erin will eject his sorry ass when he inevitably starts ranting about forcing an author to leave.

He should just leave the playground and go suck his thumb.

Sorry I am in no mood to be as tactful as John from W

Agreed and I wonder where *The Center* stuff comes in...

As a dream by Danny or....?

But even sans-The Center fanfic-ishness I miss Danny and want more. In the last posted chapter we were in the live TV interviews/simulcast of the Rocker Girrrrl Contest and I am curious if he/she can pull off the Hanna Montanna quick change bit. Juggling his school ID, Nighthawk the DJ and his/her band persona is becoming a three-ring circus for Danny and must inevitably fail. But will it blow-up in his/her face or not?

Have fun and to everyone here, speculate, comment on stories by all means. Writers need feedback. But do so respectfully and remember it's nearly all FICTION so chill dudes and dudettes.

I am SOOOOO 1960s some days.

Oh, have not been following the Norwegian stuff much as it it is so sad but has Karen_J mentioned if any of the victims were people she knew or her Norwegian relatives knew?

Keep writing

Please don`t let the critics get you down. I, for one, enjoyed your stories, and hope to see you continue.

Bobbie, I'm so glad you're

Bobbie, I'm so glad you're back, and I'm looking forward to reading whatever you choose to share with us here on BCTS.

I loved your recent story, and this blog was very revealing. I don't see any problem with splitting the Danny story line. Readers ought to be able to follow the standard Danny plot, and an alternate Danny/Center plot without being confused.

Anyway, don't let an annoying critic get you down. Please indulge your inner child to your heart's content, and always remember that lots of us here love you!

{I leave a trail of Kudos as I browse the site. Be careful where you step!}

What a not-a-nice-person person!

Really, don't pay much attention to this critic. Obviously at least 45 people are rejoiced you are posting again, so don't let one sour lemon spoil the joy for you and for them.

Honestly . . .

I was quite happy with how your story ended. I read it and was happy! The Epilogue confused me a bit. The best advice I can offer is to ignore the naysayers (and if that seems ironic coming from me, well, a gal's entitled to change her mind, right?). I don't know why anybody would find fault with the story, it's plainly labeled "fan-fic" so as far as I can see yhou are allowed to take some liberties with the charcters as long as the "owner" agrees. And since Lilith gave her official "okey-dokey", them it should be smooth sailing.

Wrapping up, I just want to say Welcome Back!

What a JERK!!!!

Bobbie.............. I read your post about the guy who has been harassing you. It REALLY pissed me off and reminded me of those in my past who criticized me. When I was young, it had the intended effect and lowered my self esteem quite a bit. Later in life, I took the time to look at myself and feel pride in my skills and accomplishments. What I realized was the person who tried to torment me (and probably you) is nothing then a bully and a coward. A person who lacks any talent at all and is made angry with those who have it in SPADES (i.e. YOU!!!!!!!) They are railing at you because they hate themselves and to knock you down, makes them feel like better about themselves. These kinds of critics are not critics at all but pathetic loser lost souls who barely deserve our pity. Keep writing your wonderful stories and DON'T LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN!!!!!.........
