PC & muse issues

I've been somewhat distracted since mid-December and haven't managed much more than a few pages of A4 during that time. The latest post of Tammy's Xmas brings me up to date with my edited/proofed scribbles so it'll be a few more days at least before the next chapter appears.

In the meantime however ....

I use a netbook PC to do everything, it goes everywhere with me and on occasions I'm none too gentle with the lid! I bought it in Oct 2009 so it's not at all new but over the past few months has given me increasing grief, the inbuilt monitor being the cause of my troubles.

The short story is that the screen has failed. In this case it is not the LCD panel itself but the cable from the motherboard into the 'lid'. I've ordered a replacement from ebay and hope to see it before the week's out. At least £12 is cheaper than a new netbook.

In the meantime please don't expect much from me, I'm currently using an older netbook and VNC to access my stuff. Both had flat batteries (so are on charge) and the older one needed a replacement OS for it to be of any use.

(For the geeks, I'm installing F14 on an Asus eee 901 while praying my eee 1005P can be saved)

Maybe a Work Around

Topsy,

Do you have a monitor available? If you do, you may be able to attach the monitor to your laptop and work that way.

Just a thought, I do that with my laptop all the time, it's much easier on the eyes, and a keyboard makes the whole thing over into a "desktop replacement."

Unfortuantely I don't have an office, study or just another room I could just setup my PC. So, even within the home I'm nomadic - more so now that a nine year old grabs the space I'm in. When I'm writing I don't like being overlooked either.

That said, I do have a monitor which I used last night whilst I was still rebuilding my old netbook. I'm now using that netbook to write this, having copied my browser config files across.

Tomorrow, however, I'm on a bus ride when I hope to get some writing done. It's a tad difficult to take a monitor and external peripherals on public transport ;-)

I've had an email back from Ebay to tell me the replacement screen cable is on its way although the tracking code can only confirm delivery (earliest tomorrow). In the meantime I'm operational again, the main drawback is the 20Gb of SSD memory.
