So as the first complete calendar year of my presence here draws to an end (I signed up sometime in 2009), I thought I'd kick off the greetings. And what better way to do that than via this message which is currently going viral in Facebook statuses...

Copy and Paste if you have enjoyed the blessing of meeting people online that you never would have met any other way. This is my end of the year shout out to the many "friends" I have never been in the same room with but who have inspired, amused, comforted, encouraged, and touched me in so many ways. I love you people! Here's to another year together. ♥ ♥ ♥

I think most of us here, both T and non-T, could agree with the sentiments of whoever first composed that message. The 'same room' is particularly appropriate considering we're a global community, with regular contributors based in places as diverse as the US, UK, Russia and even New Zealand. While some of us have met selected others, unless anyone happens to know a friendly billionaire, the chances of the majority of us meeting each other 'in real life' is slim.

However, through our stories, comments, blog posts, and messages in various other online media, we often share the same range of emotions, community and 'togetherness' - and those coping with difficult patches in their lives have often expressed gratitude for the positive / supportive / compassionate responses of this community.

As for me? While my knowledge of TG issues may be purely theoretical, I hope I've managed to make valuable contributions to discussions / threads of support messages etc.

Anyway, I hope last year treated you kindly, and 2011 proves to be even better. Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the fireworks... and the obligatory rendition of Auld Lang Syne (that particular rendition was recorded earlier this evening - and no, I won't subject you to my singing!)...

...that your respect and regard for this community has been anything but theoretical. You have certainly been a friend to me, and I'm confident that you've been a good friend and encouragement to many others as well. Thank you for caring and Happy New Year to you as well, dear one.

Dio vi benedica tutti
