So I went for a walk - or Awkward Conversations With Neighbors

I decided to go for a short nature walk to clear my head, and I took my faithful companion, my Canon Rebel XSi with me for kicks. Sadly most of the photos were drastically overexposed because I completely forgot to change exposure compensation before I left.

Most of them were completely unsalvagable. No amount of Photoshop will fix them, but I have a couple that turned out really well, that I'll post at the end of the blog (scaled down to fit :-))

While I was out though, one of our neighbors passed by, and rolled to a stop as I was kneeling to get a picture of a washed out gully.

He seemed like a decent, normal, down-to-earth guy. He asked me what the pictures were for, and I told him how I was just out and about. I commented on how I'm a bit of a hobbyist photographer, and that I lived just up the road a bit.

That part seemed to surprise him, I guess because I never get out much, and normally when I've gone these walks, either to clear my head or for excercise, I've done so in the mornings.

The only thing that struck me as odd was that after he drove off again, he pulled into the next nearest driveway and turned around, heading right back out the way he came. As he drove by he asked me where I lived again. I guess he just wanted to confirm my story. I can't blame him for being suspicious.

Long haired "dude" with a camera out in the middle of bumfuzz Arkansas in the middle of the day would seem a little 'off'. ^_^

Anyway, I'm not really worried about it. It just kind of struck me as amusing that the one day I finally have nice enough weather to get out and walk, I end up in a semi-awkward conversation with someone. :-P

~* Zee Photos! *~

So here are the two photos that turned out. The first one is just a bush in our front yard, but it's a pretty bush :-P

The second one is a dried creek bed down the road about three-quarters of a mile or so. During the Spring and part of the summer it almost flooded the road twice, so it felt kind of odd seeing it like this.

It's a LITTLE blurry because I lost my footing just as I took it, but I thought the image stabiliziation on the lens would compenate more than it did :-)

I'm still getting used to this camera, but the first one at least, turned out really well. I haven't touched it up at all except to crop and resize for web use.

Edit: Adding the third one because, let's face it, this little statue is adorable. :-)

Don't worry. I won't be making a habit of these photoblogs. Just adding these since they were relevant to the subject at hand :-D

Me like.

With regard to the neighbours....time will tell there. But if the little statues start to gather on your front lawn, DON'T BLINK!

Statues

Ohhhhh dear.

We have three or four of them that I can think of. Where's The Doctor when you need him? o.o

I'll have to try this excursion again soon, as there were a lot of landscape shots that looked gorgeous in the viewfinder. I just didn't have the presence of mind to check the LCD preview afterwards.

Thankfully it's supposed to be nice and dry through Monday. I'll amend this (and post a comment) if I should come up with some better images this weekend. :-D

Seriously

I have had a number of conversations where people have wondered why I take pictures of the same spot....over and over. I try to explain about light, and colour, and often I might as well be speaking Welsh.

*cackle* Yes!

Even the lighting from, say, mid-day to late afternoon makes the resulting image drastically different. One of the things that really strikes me is the way shadows look in different light.

I want to say I took the one of the statue in the late afternoon/early evening, which would've turned out a lot different if I'd done it with the morning sun as a backlight (although I might have used a little fill flash too. I forget off-hand).

There are no visible images in this post. Sorry, Zoe. I look at your code and see that you are using flickr to store the images. It's probably better to just go ahead and upload to BC using the image button.

Hugs,
Erin

I had a suspicion that might happen - Fixed :-D

Flickr is ... weird like that sometimes. I'll resize them and re-up 'em here, since there's a chance I might re-use the flower image again anyway in my fiction at some point. :-D

It suddenly dawned on me that TopShelf's software could auto-resize, saving me the trouble. Should be working now :-D

We Need Rain

littlerocksilver's picture

Zoe,

I think weve gone 27/28 days without rain in LR. I think we also had our 115th day of over 90 degree weather (32.2 C) this year to tie the record. Hopefully, that little dry stream bed will have water in it next week. Nice pictures. I have some of snow from last winter if you would like to cool off.

It at least dropped down to the high 30s here for lows for a couple of days, with highs in the 70s. It's back up to 80-something today, but there are supposed to be a couple of fronts moving through soon.

I'm not sure how much rain we'll get here, but I'll take whatever I can get! ;-) I've heard it's anywhere between 30-50% chance, so I'm crossing my fingers. The flowers are at least starting to bloom out again, but our poor rose bushes are done for the year.
