BBC Radio 4 broadcast a programme–Case Study–at 11am this morning about the tragic history of David Reimer and Dr John Money's misconceptions about nurture versus nature.

It is available on BBC iPlayer–see link below. Well worth listening to.

I remember this

...in arguments with the ultrafeminists and "pure nurture" folk. There is no such thing as internal or innate gender, so there can be no such thing as transsexuality. Raise a kid as X and it will unthinkingly be X, even if it started out as Y. They are STILL quoting it as an example now, even though their "facts" were never, ever that.

This tragic case dsoes serve to prove something, though, and that s exactly the opposite of their claims. Whenever I read someone like Greer sneering about how women exist purely through their DNA I want to wave this tragedy in their faces and ask if they are satisfied.

Sorry, I'm ranting, my apologies.

Breathe.

So Sad !!

Most interesting Gabi and it just goes to show that your sexuality is determined by what is between
your ears rather than what is between your legs. I agree wholeheartedly with Cyclist. As a paramedic
I attended to a boy who came off his trail bike and lost his genitals in an argument with a barb wire
fence. The thing that made Penny's life as a girl was that she had always wanted to be a girl, and once
she knew she had the acceptance of her parents and friends she settled into her new life and today is
happily married and a beautiful woman.Had she not had the desire to be a girl,I think the outcome would have been somewhat different.

Reading this story

helped me understand myself a little better, and helped me explain it to my mom.
