A warning to readers and fans, about Luck Be A Lady.

While I might be cutting my own throat, hit and comment-wise with this, I feel it's only fair to let everyone know that Luck Be A Lady is incomplete, ending with Chapter 8. There WAS a chapter 9, but I have decided that it is non-canon, and it will NOT be re-posted here, or anywhere else.

Since I wrote the story, so much has happened in my life and it seems my muse has gone on semi-permanent vacation. Thus, the story remains in it's unfinished state, with no inspiration in sight for a close.

I apologise ahead of time to those of you who might be reading this for the first time, expecting a finished story.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who have read the story, commented on it and voted on it., and a special thanks goes to Sephrena for re-posting it here, at Top Shelf. Thanks Sephy. You're the best.

Huggles 'nlove from,
Catherine Linda Michel

Gee

My saved copy of this neat little penning shows 10 chapters. I HAD been hoping that this re-post may contain minor edits etc, and maybe some new stuff. Guess I'll just have to wait for the MUSE to get back in gear. I still think its good.

Loss of Muse is usually a short bump in the night

Cathy;
I can empathize with you. When writing sometimes we lose our train of thought in the middle of a story or in the middle of the series.
No one adds a serial story with the intent of not completing it that was a sad comment.. I know you are a persistant person and that you did not just quit.
When we begin adding stories especially serials there can be a quick halt if the author suddenly is involved in a traumatic experience or is taken from life before he or she could finish it.
I know how it is. I for one have not even started reading the serial. So now I'll put it on hold until your muse makes it way back into your head.
You have my support and you know how to reach me.

That Wasn't a Sad Comment...

...it was, IMO, a legitimate question. As you say, "nobody adds a serial story with the intent of not completing it." Except that Catherine, from her announcement, apparently has done precisely that in her re-post here of an incomplete story that last posted to StorySite in 2002.

I think, Jill, you'll acknowledge that six-plus years doesn't qualify as "a short bump in the night" and that, as Catherine notes in her post, a lot of things have changed in her life over that period. If she doesn't feel she can get back into the mindset that she was in back then, or doesn't feel that it's advisable for her to do so right now, I'd certainly understand and accept that.

But I think it's a fair question to ask what she had in mind by re-posting. Did she plan to continue it here at BC and later conclude that she couldn't? Was she simply posting on a more up-to-date site so that it'd be here if she ever decided to make it happen? (If it's the latter, I wish she would have told us so when she started.)

It seems to me that a re-post of an unfinished story arc (serials can go on forever, but story arcs need to reach conclusions) strongly implies that a continuation is in sight, one that ought to lead to answers to the questions that the story posed.

I accept Catherine's apology. And I'm glad she offered it -- as my comment to part five indicated, I was really getting into the story, second-guessing the protagonist and trying to figure what his/her companions were up to, so it's a disappointment to me that I'm unlikely to find out.

Nevertheless, I think an explanation is in order. And that's what I've requested. Whether I get one or not is, of course, up to Catherine.

Respectfully, Eric

As happens quite often

The facts behind the story are more convoluted then we knew or imagined. With all the reposting going on here, it's hard to know who is doing what or with what authority. I'd had a suggestion I was going to make in private to Catherine, but having seen Ariel's comment I won't disturb her.

Take care, Catherine (and Ariel, also).

Please, if there is something you want or need to say,

then, by all means, say it. PM it if you wish, or post it here. I have no secrets that I wish to keep from the wonderful folks here.

I await your reply eagerly.

This needs to stop, NOW.

To set the record straight. Sephrena followed through on something that was asked for a long time ago...that is, to re-post all my work from other sites, here at Top Shelf. There was no permission asked, because none was required.

I WAS surprised to see LBAL being re-posted, but only because it had been so long since I'd made the original request, I'd forgotten about it.

I felt I owed it to all of you who hadn't read the story before, to warn you that it was incomplete, so you wouldn't spend your time reading a story, expecting an ending. Thus my original post. Perhaps it should have been labeled as a re-post, but what's done is done.

I will not speak for Ariel. She did what she did and she needs not explain to me, or ANYONE, why. What I WILL say is this. Things like this do no one any good. They engender bad feelings, hurt feelings and sometimes even anger.

I recommend everyone sit back, take a deep breath, count to ten, or ten thousand if that's what it takes, and just relax.

Ariel defended me because she loves me, as I love her. Perhaps I didn't need defending, but that's not germane. Ariel took an action that might seem rash, but she always has a reason for doing what she does, and I will not question her about it. If and when SHE feels the time is right to talk about it, I will listen. Until then, I consider this matter closed, and I would appreciate it very much if all of you would do the same.

Read the story if you wish, but bear in mind that it is unfinished and likely to stay that way. One can NOT force a muse. She's either there for you, or she isn't. For me to try to force the ending of a story, would be false and would not ring true or even match what's already written.

I want to stress that NO ONE did anything wrong here. This is ALL a simple misunderstanding that will work itself out given time...but bear this in mind as well.

I will NOT stand by if anyone goes after Ariel for what she did. If necessary _I_ will withdraw MY work from this site and ALL sites if that happens. Not a threat. A simple statement of fact. I would hate to do that, but I will do what I must to defend my love.

My apologies to everyone who expected completion from me. I will not apologise for Ariel, because she needs to make no apologies. Not to me.

Now I must go and try to salvage what remains of my day. Because of being awakened by this tempest in a teapot, I have missed and will miss, hours of needed sleep. My job requires that I be in top shape, mentally, and I am nowhere near that at this point. I will likely miss work today because of this and that means missed money. I blame no one.

One final thing. Do NOT come down on Sephy either. She did as she was asked, re: my story. Everything else is MY fault, not hers.

Respectfully,
Catherine Linda Michel
