I saw this and was thinging this might have the seeds of a good story in it, but don't feel much like trying myself.

OMAHA, Neb. - Nebraska’s new “safe-haven” law allowing parents to abandon unwanted children at hospitals with no questions asked is unique in a significant way: It goes beyond babies and potentially permits the abandonment of anyone under 19.

While lawmakers may not have intended it, the month-old law raises the possibility that frustrated parents could drop off misbehaving teens or even severely disabled older children with impunity.

“Whether the kid is disabled or unruly or just being a hormonal teenager, the state is saying: ’Hey, we have a really easy option for you,”’ said Adam Pertman, executive director of a New York adoption institute and a frequent critic of safe-haven laws.

What parent?

What parent hasn't been tempted to throw in the towel and drop the little darling off at the nearest convent?

Yes, this looks like a good opportunity for a story -- an easy way for parents to disown a TG child at any age. Unfortunately, it's almost certain that it's going to actually happen in real life. Before that happens, though, you're likely to see some ADHD, Asperger's, and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) kids getting plunked down at the local ER. As the father of three kids with, among them, all of the above (plus, possibly Tourette's and Oppositinal and Defiance Disorder,) I very much understand how easy it would be to make that decision.

Raising kids like that is difficult, especially when others express the opinion that your kids would be just fine if they were raised right.

Story Hook

It would also make a good hook for a cruel parent forced fem story: "Now look, Cynthia. See this article in the paper? It says I can take you back to the hospital if I'm not satisfied. So stop all this nonsense about being a boy and smooth out the wrinkles in your dress like a proper young lady."

Location, Location, Location

Being in Nebraska, dumping a TG teen seems more likely than the forced bit, but I suppose anything is possible.

Damaged people are dangerous
They know they can survive

Have they dealt with

the goon who dreamt this up? Or was it a committee? Someone who couldn't be bothered to run this by the average person in the street and ask, "does this make sense to you?" before committing it to the statute book.

And we pay these people out of our taxes.

Yes, we have people like this in the UK as well. - SIGH -
