I do a lot of reading in Anthropology, Astronomy, Psychiatry, Religious History, and other things equally as mind bending.

Really focused on where Homo Sapiens came from and why we are such violent pricks? And, coming from such uber conservative religious stock, life is anything but a "funny funny riddle". This time of year is really awful.

Reading some Psychiatric journals and have a suspicion that these folk are just as loony as a full on nutters. There are significant numbers professional folk in that area who see the whole transgender thing as a psychotic state? I won't even talk about what the professionals of "faith" believe. THOUGH, I've run into quite a few of them who are trying to understand.

One of the big questions for me is even IF being post op MtF is a psychotic state, what's a little fantasy among friends? If someone is a non-violent nutter, so what? It's all real enough for me. All along, I've been trying to prove my competence. How exhausting.

As you know, my youngest daughter contacting me in a very conciliatory way is leaving big ripples in my demented psyche. My 50 year old son insists on being a "burn me at the stake staunchie".

Still trying to make sense of a nonsensical world.

Unique

What is normal?

When it comes to what is considered normal, the best I have ever heard it described is in a joke;

Man has a flat tire on his car while driving past an insane asylum. While changing the tire, several of the people locked away inside notice and watch from the other side of the chain link fence that separates them from the outdid world.

AS he put on the spare tire the man accidentally kicks the lug nuts where he had laid them on the ground, causing them to fall into a storm drain. He stands up cursing and kicking himself at his carelessness but find no solution to his dilemma. Until one of the patients on the other side of the fence suggests he take one lug nut off each of the remaining three wheels to get him going.

After following the psychiatric patient's directions he turns to thank the man and asks, "Why is someone with your intelligence and problem solving locked away in a mental institution?"

The psychiatric patient tells him, "I'm in here because my mind works differently than your's, if there were more people like me than there was like you then you would be the one locked up in here."

We the willing, led by the unsure. Have been doing so much with so little for so long,
We are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Flat Earth Society

has more members than ever (according to reports recently)

Actually, I personally think that psychiatrists or scholars who put forward theories and publish papers are the people who do their jobs. Even if their conclusions are misguided, they did come to that conclusion through scientific studies and research. Well, a lot of them anyway, you find quacks in every profession. If the findings are believed to be in error, that's usually explored during peer reviews and some other scholars may find that their flawed understanding of the issue warrant additional research.

What I don't agree are psychiatrists who sit on a chair in their stylish rooms pushing drugs instead of trying to understand the patient and offer solution.

They make a good point

From a spectrum perspective, psychosis fits better than most others. The only problem is that it's a delusion with no other symptoms or events outside a singular and constant one. Gender dsyphoria doesn't react to anti-psychotics, but that's not necessarily an indicator that it isn't a psychosis.

Why in particular is that a problem for you?

Normalizing GID

It is actually not a problem for me. Having lived this way for nearly 14 years, on a personal level, I am content. The sole issue for me is the painful rejection of loved ones. People who do not know me do not read me, and that is a huge blessing. The real problem for some in human culture might simply be an Anthropological one. In earlier epochs, Homo Sapiens needed to be as reproductive as possible, so any thing like homosexuality or other things that interfered in that did not get approval.

Now with over 7 billion, in my opinion, Earth is full, so being reproductive is not necessary, and may even lead to our extinction.

That is similar

The interesting thing is how that idea works it’s way into theology (sorry, I like to psychoanalyze religions. It is one of my guilty pleasures). If you look at certain religions and how they have changed over time, you see the same thing. In Christianity for example, the “teachings” from God to His children in the Old Testament are mostly ones that would be important for a small group of people with little biodiversity. Whereas in the New Testament, when the old covenant is dissolved and the new one is formed, the whole feel shifts to one of love and acceptance.

It really is a shame that more people who claim that religion don’t understand the impact that that new covenant is supposed to convey.

Investigating theology

Like many, because of my absolutely lethal and demented childhood, when I "got religion", I went for it hook, line and sinker. Those folks are binary to a fault, so when my GID reared its ugly head, I was unsurprisingly ejected. In my community, there was no tolerance for a male being soft, and for a female driving a Cat.

These days, I precariously hang onto a sort of Abrahamic set of beliefs, though there are some appealing things in Buddhism. It is interesting that the major set of beliefs have huge sets of abrogated texts in their books. It only seems reasonable to me that science and theology are inextricably intertwined in a squabbling, loony cat fight. To me religious texts are mostly a bit of pseudo history.

I can empathize

When I was younger I grew up in a Catholic family. It’s one of the reasons I waited so long to open up about my gender dysphoria; I convinced myself that my parents would act like the horror stories that I have heard/seen. Turns out that, while they struggled with understanding how I was feeling, they didn’t care, I was their child first and foremost. I would have regrets if I didn’t know how many people I have in my life wouldn’t be there if I had transitioned earlier in life. (Ie. I wouldn’t have met them because I would not have been hanging with the same crowds)
