I saw that. should be interesting to see a mainstream forced-femme story.

quidquid sum ego, et omnia mea semper; Ego me.

love both main actresses

I WONT go see it. it is trying to make it seem that trans is a choice, can be forced, etc. it has had several working names over the last year "originally known as both (Re)Assignment and Tomboy: A Revenger's Tale" tomboy was the first, (re)assignment was the later one.

if they HADNT mentioned transgender ALL OVER THE PLACE, fine, it might just be an "action genre film" as Michelle claims. to me its making light of what being transsexual IS, this IS not transgender, forced femme is NOT, to me Trans at least. if its FORCED, its just mutilation of a man, and is still a man, so how are they trans? but they seem to want to use it to sell films, while also feeding the haters with more ammunition.

her defense, shes bi, so shes "one of us"??? yes i am Bi, not claimed but have been with both sex's intimately but that doesnt make you trans, or someone immune from abusing trans for profit? if it was a good story about trans, cool. she doesnt DO those kind of movies much, if at all. she is a bad ass, kick ass "chick" as she puts it.

sorry, off my soap box now.

Like she said

Fake news in a movie sense. I hate when Hollywood corrupts our narrative for their own gain.

It is also cut roughly from the same mold as gender aberrant villains like those in 'Silence of the Lambs' or 'Psycho' and others. I mean, why don't they stigmatize 'God fearing' Christians who suddenly go off and go on a killing rampage like the Knights Templar did.

They invented fake story

They invented fake story telling when even using real life incidences. Look up several movies based on real happenings and you'll see how movie makers switched events around, playing on peoples emotions as they claim artistic deliverance so as to make it more lively as many parts were dull. Even real disaster events were blemished. Wars created that never took place as with skirting over other events to bring them out in a better situation.

I am not Trans myself

But in my personal opinion Transamerica is the only TRUE TG movie, anything else is Hollywood trying to score points with the community

i agree

there are several out there that are decent to good, some from here, some from the UK. for instance the one listed above, Boys dont cry (i havent watched it yet, but i have been told its good), soldiers girl, dallas buyers club (while a lot of movies are downplayed for NOT having trans actors/actresses, it takes time to get that kind of name recognition, and most of the ones we have either dont fit the role in one way or another, or the studio/director/casting person doesnt think they can have enough draw. it takes time, look how long it took for gays to play gays in movies, etc), while a gritty side of things, focusing more on the AIDS issue, it was a credible performance, IMHO at least. and many more, less known. then there ARE The ones that are JUST a way to get money and give us a bad taste in our mouths (some meant to be campy, etc, but still not good) and ovf course adult entertainment. one of my biggest things is terms, getting the majority to understand that not all transgender are transsexuals, and not all transsexuals get bottom surgery, etc, when they think cross dressers and drag queens are the same as transsexuals, and they have LOTS of movies showing them in a bad light, etc.

Looks horrible!

I watched the trailer. Whilst the sex change feature is interesting, the film looks full of horrible, gratuitous violence.

Surely, if her testosterone had been reduced, she shouldn't be so full of hate and aggression?

Definitely a film to avoid.

obiviously

Obviously you've never seen what real woman are capable of. Not all are sweet woman. Look up what horrendous woman have done. And I do mean horrendous.

I take Hollywood for what it is. Theirs is a make believe place deeper than Disney-world, created to both entertain and make money. More to make money.

They step on everyone's toes, why should this community be exempt, any different. It's just a sensitive subject now. We've seen where 'all' sorts of people are made into foils, comic relief and so forth.

Did I say I liked it. No. I see beyond the curtain. There are a lot of disgusting movies out there as there are awful woman, mothers and so forth as with men.

Just watch

And you can see what can happen when...

Samantha

Maguffin?

Is that how you spell it?
Anyhow, having seen the trailer, I suspect that the TG aspect is merely a maguffin so that they could make a female version of Jason Statham or John Wick having a really bad day. Park your brain at the door as you enter the auditorium.
Yes, it is a film that I will go and see - assuming it gets a theatrical release.

Alfred Hitchcock...

called it a McGuffin. And the rule was that you could only have one McGuffin per movie or episode.

Looks so bad it might be good

Looks like a very silly movie. Almadovar's creepy forced-sex-change film THE SKIN I'M IN meets every schlocky revenge flick you ever saw. Since the protagonist doesn't identify as trans it's not really about transgender people, it's just some male writer's idea of the ultimate nightmare (and possibly secret forbidden dream) so I don't think it will damage the reputation of transgender people in the public eye (we have politicians, quacks like Zucker and McHugh and wingnut media preachers for that.)

What I'm more worried about is the stereotype of the unbalanced man-hating feminazi-feminist ("I've liberated you from your macho prison") that the trailer seems to imply we'll be getting from Sigorney's character. The fearsome ugliness of the women in forced femme tales like this always struck me as somehow misogynistic. Still, it's just a movie, and I'll be waiting for the county library to get it or for it to stream on Netflix (which might be pretty soon from the looks of it); and I might find it worth a few giggles. I do like that the girl isn't some sexpot, but looks tough...

I wonder if hit men all get together + complain about Hollywood's unrealistic portrayal of assassins...

You're correct

The trans community is mixing someone who 'want's to change with one in which a person is 'forced' into a change and doesn't like the idea. It's like the movie Faceoff except this has a different tone to it.

Oh wait.. are we, the bad guys, supposed to get your permission before doing this? My bad. Come back tomorrow right after I kill this person because hey, I'm the bad guy and thats what bad guys do... not the good guys and we don't care who we offend.

In one sense this is a 'forced' fem environment, but set to a hit-man. Now what if it had been about someone such as a politician or witness protection program without their permission as we've seen in many peoples writings? How would the trans community react to that? As with the fact the person in question isn't even being played by a trans individual? We want to be seen in a good light.

So do politicians, but many aren't. Those are few and far between like lawyers. Yet we still have them. And for those who say we don't need them, who would you suggest they be replaced with? Who will set the rules or the laws. Common sense? Please, that went out with the stone ages.

There will be those that say they are being picked upon by Hollywood for being different. What did those Aliens think when they were portrayed as being evil or misunderstood? Who knows. We just killed them also as we either made money or paid to see it.

Yeah...

"Alien"? Yeah. It was probably before your time. Or maybe it was before the Doctor's time.

But is there such a thing as being before the Doctor's time?

Departing somewhat from movies...

Departing somewhat from movies...

I've really enjoyed "TransParent"

I'm a huge "Sense8" fan(Could it possibly be because its produced and directed by the Wachowski sisters??)

"Hit and Miss" was getting pretty good till it got pretty bad... From what I read they wanted to do a second season which might have been able to salvage it but the actress(nontrans, Boo...) had some very dysphoria-type issues coming up with wearing prosthetic male genitalia and wouldn't go for it. Totally not dissing Chloe Sevigny on that, I think she's a fine actress and did the role as well as could have been expected... better in some ways.

I'm almost 3 seasons into "Orange is the New Black" and still haven't decided if I like the way they've written Sophia... but i love Lorraine Cox and understand she's got a major role in a new TV drama "Doubt" on CBS.

The best fiction with trans characters in it(that I've encountered) is right here on BCTS, including of course our very own literary giant(yes I mean you Angharad) who gives "Magnum Opus" a whole new meaning. There are other truly awesome sites of course, I would be remiss to not mention the Crystal Hall as I'm a Whately addict(I wonder if there's a word for that, like "Potterheads" for the wizarding crowd...?).

Anyway.... my $.02 worth,

movie

I can't for the life of me. see this one and I like both of these actress. this is force sex change is degraded for transgender . I think Hollywood should take a step back on this.

The problem isn't with the movie

It's how it's being promoted.

The problem is two fold. One is if Hollywood makes any movie involving a sex change now they feel they have to promote it as transgender (thank you OITNB). And in tandem with that is the fact that the transgender community feels any movie that has a sex change should properly reflect what they think transgender should be. It's like two women fighting over a dress and ripping it down the middle and in the end no-one is happy and all we have is a ripped dress.

Take the movie for what it is - a deranged woman punishes her sister's killer with what SHE considers the worst punishment possible for a man - taking away his manhood. And now the hitman has to deal with it and it ain't pretty, nor is it politically correct because the last time I checked hitmen weren't either.

Look at the very popular stories by Snowfall and Wolfjess (my apologies for using them as an example) and the LOG party turning boys and men into she-male and female slaves. I don't see anyone here condemning the maids in those stories for portraying transgender in a bad light because for those boys and men it's strictly forced fem so why castigate this film for doing the exact same thing?

Vent your anger at the Hollywood PR folk and the trans community that slaps the label on the movie so they can either promote it or disown it. Psycho and Dressed to Kill had deranged killers who dressed as women to kill and it was part of their psyche.. Here at least the character was already a killer - so making him into a woman physically has nothing to do with what he was or is no matter how you want to label it.
