That's Sad

Frank's picture

I imagine this happens all the time and we don't hear about it. Poor kid. I would have liked to hear from the father about his take on child. Is he just being an asshole, is he sincere in believing that the child isn't confused.

As an aside, I thought the subject might have been in relation to a sudden wave of immigrants overwhelming Canada from the south. :)

Seems skewed...

We have a human rights bill that would cover this. The article says a court order the 4 year old to change their clothing... in fact the courts would have ordered the parent to stop dressing 'him' as a girl.

Canada has no you must wear this clothing or that and it would fall squarely under our human rights legislation that we can wear any damn thing we want so long as certain things are covered up. Also Canada about 15 years ago did away with the law REQUIRING breasts be covered up because it discriminated against women. So women in Canada aren't required anymore to hide their breasts including nipples.

My mother had an appoplexic moment when the American strip clubs sent their girls up to advertise for business in a cross border shopping expedition. (she lives in a border town with Detroit). The huge breasted African Americans were wandering around town with their tops off and handing out cards to men who showed any interest. Well you should have heard my mother!

We do our best

The one sentence that keeps coming back time and time again to haunt me is.
"We can't save them all."
How many times have I tried to tell someone those very words in the hope they don't get too depressed? I know we will always have the ill informed, the bigots, those who love to hate because (any reason will do), and those who are deathly afraid of anyone who rocks the status quo.

"The difference between genius and stupid is genius has its limits." Einstein

I believe we are living in an Event Horizon of epic proportions. I've seen too much not to believe. Mankind has been given a choice to either become enlightened or recycled back to the stone age. It is going to be up to us to chose which path. May God help us.

My mother is an example of this when it comes to anything not in the firmly heterosexual male or female category.
She thinks people for almost all people being Homosexual is just a choice not anything else, and that a course of essential oils, can fix any so called hormonal imbalance that causes someone to think that way. And when Obama for example pushed for the recognition of same sex marriage she was furious, i kept asking her how does this affect you, why are you so concerned. And the thing is people like her fight like hell to keep things like that from changing. And they always use God and Church as the excuse and justification. I will be honest that is why I do not go to church anymore, to many twist the book to suit there own needs, well that has not changed in over 2000 years.

about gender sensitivity training, no matter how much training they take, if they are closed minded enough they will still not take notice of the people that care for the children, or their medical professionals or they will take the view those of the other party because it fits more closely to their own.

There are other considerations, I'm not sure about Canada but I know in some areas in the US the offices of Sheriff, Police Chief and Judge are filled by local vote, not buy experience and training, which means that they are essentially political appointments which would never bode well for cases like this.

My point with the above, although again the report had pertinent information excluded, the report did say that TWO judges ruled against the mothers case, which I find strange unless the mother didn't seek the correct medical advice. (while writing this I did a quick google search because I was interested in how judges were appointed and found this EXCLUSIVE - Appointment of judges politically biased in Alberta)

Yes

its nice to see politicians actually worrying about the important things. NOT!!!

I do wonder if Ms May (Green Party MP) was objecting because they contribute to global warming.

Saw that

I ran across the story while reading over at the BBC. She got so bent out of shape over a fairly innocuous word, what would she do if she hears real swearing? Probably faint. OTOH, it may just be that when sufficiently provoked she can swear like a sailor!

This has nothing to do with

This has nothing to do with her being offended by the word, this is more to do with a member breaking one of their longstanding rules against lewd and offensive language. "Fart" is apparently one of the words that you aren't allowed to say so the person should have said "flatulance" or some other eloquent phrase may not. Don't forget that this is the same legislative body that routinely gets lambasted for its overt and covert insulting remarks towards the opposition on both sides of the table but never actually insults the other. They are also known for heckling the other side while in a debate, something that gets rambunctious without getting insulting or offensive.

But why let facts get in the way of a good thrashing of a despised politician as Ms. May appears to be.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Well, if her only problem was the breach of decorom than I have not a shred of sympatyy for her. There's a saying, "Choose your battles." I'd say she has made herself and her party look bad. That can't have been her intention.

No, her

intention was do distract from the question at issue, and I'd also lay bets that her objection ran out the clock that the parliament had to discuss the issue in Alberta this time around.
If she did infact run out the clock she did actually win the battle.

KT Leone

Didn't KT write this story a few years back? Some of the quotes seem to be exactly what she wrote.
