cliche' or cheesy

I was watching a tv show. A super hero show.

Why is it that even though the police chase is like 30 stories straight down the "hero" has to take a LONG way to get there?

In batman he drives for like minutes to go less than a block away?

Superman/girl fly around at great speed in the clouds to go almost straight down?

I just found it amusing. Silly in extreme but amusing.

I think it's

to build suspense, which is silly, amusing and clichéd because we know that the hero has to prevail.

I have always called FAKED scenes of suspense "writing with crayons"

as the author has run out of good ideas and let the kids do the writing from there.

example: a detective finds some clue and mrs blank is in danger WAY across town--but suddenly on a PD that has 20,000 cops, he is the only one that can drive 10 miles to get there in time?
really?
