Thursday, August 4th at 7 pm I received an odd phone call. Odd because 7 pm is not the time you expect a nurse to phone.

Transcare BC nurse called because of my scheduled gender recognition surgery, I didn't even know transcare bc existed, yet they are post-op recovery specialists for trans people.

Since my new digs are a supportive housing building I really won't need much assistance from transcare bc but it is nice to know they are there if I do need them.

Trans Care BC was established as a program of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) in fall 2015 following community engagement and input from clinical experts and stakeholders from transgender communities.

BC is the first and only province in Canada to create a provincial system to support transgender health.

The program supports the delivery of equitable and accessible care, surgical planning, and peer and community support for transgender and gender-diverse people across BC.

Input from partners and stakeholders – including transgender communities, regional health authorities and the Ministry of Health – is critical to the development of a comprehensive provincial network of services. Trans Care BC is working closely with these groups

for anyone in BC, specially the lower mainland, they will see any post-op trans person at the 3 bridges medical clinic at Drake and Hornby even if you live outside of 3 Bridges limited service area ( which I do ).

That's the same place I go to

That's the same place I go to for checkups since I started transitioning. They also have services for pre-op. It's definitely weird that you received a random phone call from them, especially at that time.

Hugs from British Columbia! :D

not random

It seems that either BC medical or the clinic in Montreal let them know about the impending surgery and they were making contact to make sure I am prepared for the aftercare and healing.

3 months for healing is what is expected, with limited mobility to start with due to the tenderness in the groin area. Being ready for that and something in place for getting meals until you are more mobile is part of the preparation for the surgery.

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.
