Here are a few older stories that I find myself going back to when I have exhausted the more current offerings here. There is so much creativity on this site and so many great authors currently active, that I think it is easy to overlook some of the great things hidden in the archives.

Please respond with links to your own favorites and what makes the stories special to you.

Kate Draffen by Swishy
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/8719/kate-draffen
This is the story of a young man affected by a sudden gender change. The tone is sweet and earnest.

Severance Pay by Melanie_T (originally Meps98)
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/47649/severance-pay
A thriller with a tg twist. Absolutely one of my favorites of any genre.

Five Hertz of Separation by Meps98
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/53685/five-hertz-separation
It you are a fan of fantasy settings in an alternate dimension this one is for you. I live the magic system and TG setup in this story.

The Best and the Brightest by Maggie_Finson
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/4600/best-and-brightest
I love the Caregivers concept. There are other stories located offsite from this universe by other authors. They can be hard to find.

A four part mystery/thriller.

Oh so many.

There are many good super-hero, fantasy, and sci-fi stories on this website that it is insane. And many of these stories are epic in length. Just use a keyword in search and you will have more stories than you believe. Just pick a long one and chances are the story will be good.

For example, The Cosmic Comic Retcon (I think that is the titles) series, which is several super-hero stories.

Some of my very favorites for re-reading.

Time has not been my friend of late, and I don't get to spend much time reading (or writing :( ) but I do have several favorites that I go back to over and over again, not in any particular order.

The Jacket - by Grover
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/16432/jacket
This is a fantastic story about a young person dealing with his extended family on Thanksgiving after having been caught by his brothers recently.

The Phone Call - by Carla Ann
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/16195/phone-call
This is a story of second chances for a father that screwed up his relationship with his daughter.

One Last Game - by Melanie Ezell (Rasufell)
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/16167/one-last-game
This is short, but oh so sweet, again an act of love.

Grandma and the Bear - Ricky
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/11997/grandma-and-bear
This is a nice long story. Grandma puts an ad in the paper for a new border, a man she quickly comes to think of as a bear, a great big Teddy Bear, has a bit of a secret. I love this story, and it's sequel.

Camp Kumoni - Anistasia Allread
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/4322/camp-kumoniwanalaya
The 1st of the Camp Kumoni Saga - I loved this and it's sequel - The Princess and the Plague. You have to look past the original premise which was somewhat unlikely, but I love the characters and waited on pins and needles for each new chapter. The 2nd sequel was never finished, for many reasons, not the least of which is it was going in a direction many of us did not care for, but even with that I would have stuck with Anastashia to see how she played it out. I loved the first two stories so much in fact that in my own story (The Life and Times of Kelly Anderson, there are several homages to her main character Erika. A minor character, Dr. Erika, who at one point reminisces about her life changing experience at summer camp.) If you have not read Camp Kumoni, I can't recommend it enough!

Finally my all time favorite, by far TG story, unfortunately is no longer available on BCTS. It is however still hosted on Stardust. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by putting the link here.

Mister - Dimelza Cassidy
http://www.stardustr.us/mister
This is a very long read. It is one of the best written stories I have ever read on this or any other site. This is a story of a middle aged cross-dresser, that has mostly given up on life, who finds himself named as the legal guardian of a young girl, who has just lost her parents. The story spans decades, from the time they come together, till her wedding day. A story of love.

There are many others I enjoy, but these I come back to, time and time again.

Thanks for the topic --- I'll be interested in seeing what everyone else suggests!

Hugs to all,

Kristy

Thank you

Thank you for the suggestions I will be looking them over the next time I have a lazy evening.

Appears I Didn't Get to This...

...before it fell off the front page. But here are some stories that I'm frequently happy to read again. They're listed alphabetically by author:

Angharad - Totally Insane
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/7476/totally-insane

Enjoyable 36-parter (short for an Angharad tale) about a young kid whose talents run to babysitting and locksmithing. Fun, especially after we get past the setup.

Grover - Strange Happenings in Ragnorak County
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/2877/strange-happening...

One of Grover's earliest short stories, but it's beautifully set up and executed. In a farming community in the rural (U.S.) deep south, animals are mysteriously disappearing; our teenaged protagonist's brilliant best friend theorizes that a UFO is responsible. The locals may not stray far from traditional stereotypes, but they're treated sympathetically and not ridiculed for it.

(To see how far Grover's writing has developed in the intervening ten years, check out his five-part End of the World series from last year. At 100,000 words, I haven't re-read it often, but it's quite good.)

Tiffany Shar - Dollar Runaways
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/48774/dollar-runaways

Probably my favorite novel-length tale here. A bright preteen and his mother are on the run from their father/husband, who's a key figure in an Italian underworld organization that runs a chain of dollar stores all over the U.S. as a front for drug smuggling and other operations. To disguise themselves, the boy loses three years and becomes a girl; his mother drops a decade or so and becomes the girl's adult sister, while both the Family and the FBI --- which they're avoiding because of leaks -- try to find them.

Sleethr and Draflow - She of the Jade Skirt
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/book/38740/she-jade-skirt

Novel length in nine parts. Certainly the bloodiest of this list (and the dozen or so runners-up), since the lowlifes who start the action and the Aztec goddess whose old altar they desecrate aren't known for subtle solutions. Here's the teaser: "Melody and her family were on their first family vacation in sunny Mexico when a parent's worst nightmare happened and Melody was kidnapped. Retired Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Donald 'Wolfman' Wolf is dying from cancer when an ancient Aztec goddess makes him an offer he can't refuse. This is their story." You get the impression that co-author Draflow, who died during the story's production, really knew what he was talking about here.

Valentina Michelle Smith - Jury Duty
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/624/jury-duty

Another oldie, about a cross-dresser who takes on his fiancee's jury duty assignment while she's working in Europe. A fun tale, so realistic (as far as the court parts are concerned; I can't speak for the cross-dressing) and well-written that I literally thought of it when listing my own jury experience.

Thliwent - Going There and Back Again
http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/47672/going-there-and-...

Really good SF tale, posted in ten parts. The "other" kind of time travel tale: the male protagonist is reliving his previous decade, this time as a female friend of his original self and his wife. To quote the teaser: "The life of a physicist can be troubling, at times, as the universe doesn't always play well with others. But even the universe can't break a true promise."

(I had a Tanya Allan novel listed here as well, but now that she's also offering it on Amazon, I'm not sure its presence here should be publicized. Let's just say it's the one where the protagonist finds new life as his Swedish cousin.)

Thanks to all who suggested their favorites

It is easy to just search different key words for those elements that I know I enjoy reading. I think it is much better to sometimes check out what other people recommend.

I will look for the Tanya Allen book on amazon.

Thanks
