If I understood, he is saying that the 49 dead were someone's children.
that is how i
read it too. he was pointing out that yes these were adults, but they were also children to loving parents, brothers, sisters, etc. with some of the vitriol from the extreme fringe on the right, he was pointing out it could be YOUR kids to those people.
