Mass General Hospital in Boston, Mass. has announced the first sucessful US transplant of a penis. The receipent had penile cancer and had his removed in 2012.
The lead surgeon saved my bladder in 2013 when I was diagonesed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer.
A team of 7 surgeons and over 30 support staff were involved in the surgical proceedure.
Doctor Feldman expects that in several weeks the patient will have full function of his penis. This also provides hope to servicemen who have received wounds to the genital region
They also feel that in a few years this surgery will be available for F to M reasignment surgeries.

WOW

I am thrilled at the news. It is very heartening to see that technology continues to make people whole.

I read somewhere a couple months ago at steps being taken to transplant a fertile womb as well which would benefit women who had a hysterectomy as well as M-2-F Transgenders.

Be kind to those who are unkind, tolerant toward those who treat you with intolerance, loving to those who withhold their love, and always smile through the pains of life.

Dr Feldman's reply was that all the wiring was there in a male, they'd have to figure it out in the future for a female.

I have to wonder,

Who donated the penis?
Is there an m-to-f donor walking around without a vagina or labia or was it donated by a traffic accident victim.

I'm an m-to-f post op myself and the surgeon told me there wasn't much penile tissue left even though my m-to-f was only a 'cosmetic job'. He used much of the penile skin to create smooth inner labia minora and the inner sides of the labia majora.
