As of today, entries are officially being accepted for the March 2016 contest, "On An Adventure!"

As a reminder, here is the original blog entry, including instructions on what the terms of contest entry and final prizes are. Y'all have two weeks to get your entries in, but with us utilizing the Kudos system for votes there is a minor advantage to posting earlier, though not as much as you might think! (Just look at the last contests' entries to see THAT!)

{Edited} Use the new 2016 March - On an Adventure Contest tag on your story to be included in the contest. :)

I'll be looking forward to seeing what everyone puts in! And, of course, I'll make sure to vote for every single one!

Adventure

Well, I hope my story fits the contest. I'm 3/4 done (I know, because I'm approaching the 10K word limit) and should have something up by the weekend.

Thanks Melanie

As promised, I have posted a story for your contest. It appears to be the first entry.

Thank you. You have such a creative mind. You're a wonderful part of this vibrant community.

Thank y'all!

I still need to work out an entry myself (even if it isn't actually valid :P ) but I'm glad people are giving this a shot again. Here's hoping for more great entries, and I'm really looking forward to BOTH y'all's pieces! (I've got yours open, Angela, I just haven't had the time to read it yet!)

Good news and bad-ish

The good news is, my muse is on a roll! The bad news is, it's on too much of one! I've got ~9200 words and I will definitely need more than 800 words to wrap it up. Trimming this down to get it under the 10k limit is gonna suuuuuck...

Ah well! C'est la vie!

Closer than I thought...

Okay, the first draft clocks in at ~10,200 words. I think I can trim that down to length without too much trouble...

Word count

I was going to ask how firm the 10k limit was. I have like 3 paragraphs to write which will bring it in around 10,300. There're a couple of sections I can rewrite but it probably won't eliminate 300 words.

And it's not exactly a traditional type of adventure.

So long as y'all keep it as close as you can...

I mean, the 10k word limit is there mostly as a convenience to readers. Let's face it, at least in my experience much more than that in a single post results in readers not wanting to invest the time to read the story, and since I wanted these contest entries to be single-post only, keeping at 10k gives the best chance of lots of readers. That said, I don't think a few extra words can hurt. I mean, like 10,500 would be WAY too much...

Just do y'all's best, okay?
