While rereading past stories

I was reminded of a story it is a scifi, accidental change, forces.
I'm almost 100 percent sure that it isn't alien artefact related so rules out:-
Breanna Ramsey's 'Genomorph' & Morpheus' 'Legacy Universe' 'Hardshell', I reread The Legacy Universe after began posting 'The Return of Nevermore'

It is a man made science project, may be futuristic, not Desiree Jones' 'The Bronze Maiden'.

However there was police involved, maybe swat, science experiment to make Tactical APS (Hardshell), can't remember if the officer/soldier was injured and a result was offered the position in the project.

Or is this my memory playing tricks and merging elements of multiple stories.

Oldies

I have gone back to reading some older stories Ovid , Andersonville are some of my old favorites , Also EOF has a bunch of great stories just a few so many more could spend all day.

I've gone back to reread

Aardvark's "The Warrior from Batuk" a couple of times. Another old favorite is Maggie Finson's "Peace Bringer" and if I want an epic, there is Hypatia's "The Oracle of New Delphi." For a laugh I'll reread another Finson story, "Maiden by Decree." Currently rereading the whole Gaby series.

Might it have been a story

Might it have been a story about the development and testing of a tactical suit that could be used by SWAT teams, which ended up bonding and changing the prototype tester?

If so, I think that's one of lightoffury's stories, but I may have the wrong author.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

That does sound like

the story. t
If the story is one of LoF's I'm glad as I enjoyed those stories, but saddened because I can no longer read those stories.
