'There was this sense of feeling judged': Eddie Redmayne admits he can empathize with transgender women after feeling 'very exposed' in his new film The Danish Girl

There will always be those who accept and those who hate. Learn to judge the ones you get close to no matter who you are or what you identify as. Even if you are all male or all GG the judgement is still there. Not always as obvious as those who have transitioned or those who wish to but don't have the coins to make that journey.

All my love to all the boys and girls struggling to find their life in this messed up world. Congratulations and all my love to those who found their life in this messed up world.
Stay safe no matter who you are

Why not use a real T girl?

There is nothing more to say. Having asked the ultimate stupid question, I am going back to watching "The Princess Diaries".

High profile....

Using an actor of his reputation and talent now equals not just a better chance for the movie's greater exposure and ultimate success but higher profile for transgender issues and greater understanding. For my own sake in explaining my own gender issues, I personally would rather my family watch a well crafted movie in a local theater than wonder to which art theater it might eventually appear in NYC.

And after watching the extended trailer. I believe he's the perfect actor for the role. His expression here captures the dual emotions of confusion and wonder as Lili first begins to emerge.

Looking at it from a Hollywood POV

Who in the TG community would get the Box Office pull that Eddie R would?
Hollywood is all about $$$$$. Art and realism/truth are a long way down the tree. Just think of what they did to U-591? The US Navy captured the u-Boat? Really?

Having seen the trailers I think this will be a successful film but IMHO it is too far off the mainstream to win at the Oscars.

Let us all wait until we have seen it before we pass judgement of the portrail of someone coming out in very different times to the current day.

Movies vs. real life

If by U-591 you mean U-505 it's in Chicago, Illinois at the Museum of Science and Industry, near the lake. Yes, the US Navy captured it. Just use your favorite search engine on 'U-505' and that will bring up lots of info on it and its capture on 4 June 1944 by US Navy Task Group 22.3

I liked the way

he said on the Radio 4 interview that they didn't want to do the sudden change from being a man to discovering his feminine side, so he portrayed some feminine traits before the transition. He's a very sensitive man and uses this sensitivity and observation for his characters. I'm sure he's a super guest at a dinner party.
