I just spotted this on the Daily Wail website, regarding an animation of the Gender reassignment surgery. Here is the link:

Apparently some men have problem uncrossing their legs after watching.

I wonder if Pixar would do a better animation. Also, who would they get for the voice over.

Can't watch that.

As interesting as it would be to watch that animation, I'm not going to take the risk. I flat out cannot watch reality medical shows, hell shows like ER have had me near passing out or being close to vomiting and some movies, even though I know it's fake can have the same effect.
I've had several surgery's and I've always had to tell the surgeon that general details about what he/she are going to do are fine, but please don't get too graphic or they'll be picking me up off the floor.

I have seen high school kids

I have seen high school kids make better animations than that video. I hope it's stock from some source because if it's new they wasted their money.

I agree that a lot of males are going to cross their legs and wince in pain but thankfully I have seen photos of the operation online and after having seen my own arm being operated on(long emergency operation with problems getting general anesthesia right) it kind of deadens the squeamishness

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

even a verbal description has both cisgenders crossing their legs in pain.

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.

I am very clearly

Not cis -gendered then...
Oh, wait, I have an account at BCTS, which might just be another clue that I am not.

SRS

This is actually very good but does not show the use of cautery on blood vessels. In the procedure done on me, the Vas Deferens was placed at the posterior of the Neo Vagina to provide continuous lubrication. I have no idea if this is done universally.

Mine was done in Bangkok, Thailand. I would urge caution in choosing a surgeon abroad. Though my Surgery in 2007 was $12,000 including plane ticket and lodging, they did things to attempt to increase the price, and I brought an e-coli infection home that nearly killed me.

The most difficult part for me to adjust to is that even with SRS, most of us, nearly all of us, do not seem to have relationships with male partners, many remaining completely celibate like me. That is frustrating and heart breaking, and it seems that the possession of a Vagina does not necessarily make us females that males want. 27% of us are lesbians and I do not know how many of that group obtain partners.

If I could go back to 2004, I would get a Castration, and perhaps take hormones but not get full SRS. Fantasizing about it might be much better.

surgery abroad may not be an option

surgery abroad may not be an option for some. Its not one for me personally. Due to the type of scar tissue I form I have to have any procedures done here in the U.S. I'm no where near that point in time(sadly) but that day will come and I will more than likely be going to california for it to be done. For FFS I could go to Dallas or maybe even Shreveport but for GRS(SRS) I'll probably go to cali for it. For me, there's no going back to fix something, even if minor. I get one shot only.

I suspect things have moved on since

I had surgery, in those days even clitoroplasty wasn't done but otherwise it looks quite good though it was uncomfortable for sex, but that wasn't the main reason I had it done 24 years ago.

Don't understand the fascination really

I would not watch such a thing and I had it done already.

Would you want to watch the video of a open heart operation, a liver transplant, a full face transplant?

Maybe for academic reasons, but to make one squeamish before going under one of those ops?

I would and did watch it!

I love medical surgery shows.

Being a farm girl. I have seen and done many barnyard surgeries

My mother never allowed us the luxury of squeamishness.

Dayna.

Ps. You should try cleaning birds for eating. The smell alone will turn you green. Funny that after killing a mix of chickens, geese, ducks, and the odd turkey... We were always happy to eat beef or pork for a few weeks after.

Doctorin

I gave shots, bandaged wire cut animals, and that sort of thing. There was this crusty old guy that took the gonads on one of our calves, and as he took them out, he popped them in his mouth. After I was sure he had eaten them both, I complained to him that he didn't share.

Sick but fun

My uncle used to make a game of slaughtering a couple of chickens, he'd have us catch them (wich was fun) then he'd hold a competition to see wich one of us could make the body fly the furthest after grabbing the chicken's head and slinging it around like a nunchuk untill the head ripped off. Then we'd all laugh as the headless chickens ran around in circles.

Gory and sick i know, but we were kids...and the men (my Dad and Uncle) were useually drunk.

I always wondered how they

I always wondered how they did that. I watched it twice, and didn't bother me one bit. Now that's not to belittle the ones who can't handle that sort of thing, but I have watched a program that was on TV years ago, called The Operation. And yes they actually showed actual operations, and again, it didn't bother me one bit.
Oh, and to all the ones complaining about the animation quality, who cares! This is something kids aren't meant to watch, it's for grown ups, who are going to have the surgery, so the animation is just fine.

Videos are on Youtube for those who aren't squeamish :)

One word of advice.

Angharad's picture

Now you see how it's done - don't try this at home, kiddiwinks, it might hurt a bit.

Angharad

SRS relatively painless

I was 60 when I had SRS, and it seemed relatively painful. Breaking C-6 hurt worse. Destroying my knee hurt worse also. They used Versed, a Saddle Block and I do not know what else as an anesthesia and of course that stuff erases the pain. I remember chatting with the surgeons after.

In recovery, I was so high that I sang so happily for hours. Later, back in my room they quite crossly insisted that I not get up for a wee. Several days later, they took the packing out, and that hurt a wee bit.
