The warehouse I work out of sells excess pallets to a Hispanic gentleman. I have often helped him load. The pallets tend to get tippy as they come off the dock plate and I helped steady them. About half way through the loading process, he asked, "What's your name?" I answered, "Pat." He then asked, "Patricia?" Since it was work where I try to maintain a male persona, I corrected, "Patrick." He smiled and nodded and went back to work.

Perhaps, as others have commented on my other blog entries, I'm no so much in stealth as I thought. It may have been his subtle way of telling me he saw through the male facade. But then, I do wear my hair in a high ponytail and always wear perfume, (Toujours Moi) So the facade may not be as great as it could be.

Some have the ability to see deeper than the skin

Our world isn't black and white, there is a lot in between. As there are many who are instantly hostile when someone rocks their concept of male and female is indisputable. There are those who see more than the surface. So many years back I looked at her and told her she was a beautiful girl. He looked shocked and then embarrassed. He didn't deny it. Four years later she sent me a picture and a story. The judge for all the legal changes wanted to know if it was a joke? There was no way she was ever a male. She was the only one I ever read so clearly, there was no doubt the first time I met her.

In order to survive, life might demand one keeps the facade the doctor tagged one with at birth. Sometimes it is transparent they are not what the doctor called at birth.

I wish you happiness. It sounds like for a little bit, you found true happiness in your life as someone looked thorough the veneer you maintain to hold onto a job and life.

I thought I saw the girl inside a boy earlier this year but she turned out to be a girl dressing male for work. In explanation I was just entering a country where many women have strong facial hair that they do not remove or disguise.

The smile is what counts and I don't doubt that your customer and others see you as female
