The Girl Scouts of Western Washington returned a $100k donation, because the donor requested that none of the money go to help Transgender Scouts.

Update: Their Indiegogo campaign to replace the $100k https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/girl-scouts-is-foreverygi... has raised close to $250k by 1AM PDT.

..."Uh, gimme a dozen boxes of Thin Mints. Gotta do my part to support transgender scouts, y'know...yeah, that's it..."

In all seriousness, good for them! That teaches the girls the best possible lesson, I think--some things do count more than money.

Yes, more cookie !!!!

I think I bought 8 boxes this year and ate them all ! YUM !!!!!

I'd like to find out who that donor is and make sure that I do not do business with them.

This is an organization that we can be proud of......

Unlike the BSA, who can't seem to come up with a reasonable policy for dealing with gay scoutmasters, let alone transgender scouts.

One of these days the people of our country will wake up and realize that all people are alike, regardless of gender or sexuality. There is good and bad in all of us. The key is to find the good and cultivate it without worrying about race, religion, political beliefs, gender orientation, sexuality, or any other minor difference between us.

Congrats to the Girl Scouts of America for being a caring and thinking organization.

What I am curious about

How many TG girls scouts would of been affected by them keeping the money, or was this return just for the principle of it?

It's the principle, of course

It's almost certainly the principle. After all, if they simply wanted to get around the problem, they could have agreed, knowing that they will spend more money on non TG scouts than was the value of the donation.

I've worked in several local non-profit organisations where we might get donations towards something which we're planning to buy. As long as we buy it and it costs more than the donations, we have fulfilled the obligations in the gift.

But if someone had said, 'I don't want this to go to black people,' there's no way we would touch the donation with a barge pole.

I've never had anyone say they don't want it to go to transgender people. They must be really weird.

Probably a fundi

I can totally see this coming from Evangelicals. Remember "Focus On The Family"? Me and they had WAR, and my having been an Evangelical for many years, I knew their condemning ways and used their shtick against them. I did my best to be their worst nightmare. They are the ones who had Exodus International, and used conversion therapy and are a perfect example of "The last shall be first and the first shall be last".

It would have provided scholarships for 5000 girlscouts to pay for GSA activities. as a former helper to a troop, it is a lot of money, but the principle of the thing is the important thing, think of the message it sends to the girls, first and foremost, if they took it, it would be further signs of grown up hypocrisy and devalue the learning experience with mistrust.
