Writing

If I knew that the people were trustworthy and would not pay unfairly and not steal my work, then I would work with them. As you can easily determine, I am not one of the popular writers on this site, though there seems to be a small core group that are loyal and kind to me.

I simply won't write some of what is popular here. The writing that I see as good is often not popular. "Battlefield Earth" is one example. I do not know how she stands up under the rejection she receives here. I used to think that I understood the demographics of the readership but now days, not.

In the public arena, there are popular writers that I would not bother with. A.G. Riddle is an author that writes competently but his stories are so sad. I have read all of his books. David Weber is another wonderful author that I have read extensively, but in places his work is difficult to read. Currently, one of my favorite authors is :E. L. James, not for the erotic content but for the understanding of the mind set of very damaged people, and the healing that can take place. Her work is dear to me because I do not understand why a person with my background did not get a gun and go murder certain of my family and others who were unkind to me. There are some churches and Masjids that I do not know why they did not get burned down. Why is it that some of us who are horribly abused do only good, and others do only bad. What is it that changes our path?

It is said that writers are working out their issues when they write. So whether my work is ever popular or not, I have had the pleasure of seeing some of my daemons off to sheol. Thank you.

I'm on the same page with you.

I've tried a few times to read Riddle's Atlantis trilogy, but I always put it down. It just doesn't push my buttons in the right way. As for Weber, I love his stories, but I tend to skip through the parts of villain exposition. It comes through to me as blah blah blah.

I don't write anymore. I'd like to, but I find the blank page very intimidating. I've tried to write in the past. It never turned out well.

I've seen more of these "Write and get rich" come on's before...

You would be better served by buying a copy of Writer's Digest "Writer's Market" for the current year and subscribing to their magazine. Bounce what you find there against "Predators and Editors" a website that keeps current information on the good companies and the scams.

Gwen: I've heard the same thing, "Writing is cheap therapy." It's good to hear that some of your demons have been put down.
