A Curiosity

For some reason, one particular story of mine, "John's Living Nightmare" gets many times the hits of my other stories -- except for a story still listed on the Home Page. It doesn't get many times the Kudos. ("Bikini Beach: A Boy's Visit" comes closest to that.) Is there a particular reason?

Maybe it's not Bikini Beach?

Me too!

I'd noticed that one of my chapters, Perspectives: 37, has received 2500 reads whereas those surrounding it only 12-1300 (but no more kudos) and had wondered why.

My guess would be...

...its unique approach as either a kind of paranormal forced-fem, or an allegory of what a transgender person feels daily, however one wants to look at it. Instead of relying on the same old tropes, it twists them instead. That's what drew me to it, at any rate.

Various things!

Just some thoughts on this:

Various things can cause more raw hits.

One is comments generating more comments or at least returns to the page to read them. If I see from my tracking page that someone has commented on something I have, I will go and look, this generates another hit. I will also may look if a "new" or "updated" appears.

I personally may also generate extra hits at times by having a story I intend to read open but then end up needing to reboot my browser before I get to it or finish it. When you restore the session it causes another hit like any other page refresh.

Things like these are most explain likely the explanation when extra hits occur on an individual chapter, nothing else really makes sense. But they must occur just as randomly often on individual stories.

Bots?

Some of these might be not by humans, but by bots. There are all kinds of strange e-activity on the Net these days. For example, if some kind of bots gets mistaken that this page might yield sometimes some e-mail address to be harvested and sold to the spammers, it might get their visits often.

For me...

Looking down your story list, I think this story is probably the only one which doesn't say Bikini Beach against it, which I never read. I can certainly remember starting it, but never finished because it appeared to be a magical transformation. So I was certainly one of those people who clicked on that story but not your other stories.
