Texas will be fine

Texas is a proud and independent and self sufficient state so we don't need any federal government help.

Latest Forcast

Wasn't the latest forecast for 40 days and 40 nights of rain?

Is the cubit the standard unit of length in the bible belt?

Texas is an odd duck. You

Texas is an odd duck. You can't really call it part of the Bible Belt, or even the 'Deep South'. In fact, most of the Bible Belt is considered to be the midwestern states, and into Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Louisiana was predominantly Catholic, and who knows _what_ Mississippi was. Deep South is considered to be Louisiana to Florida, and up to the Carolinas (and Virginia)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Thank you

I just want to take a moment to say thank you to Texans for allowing us to include them as part of the United States, ;o)

Hugs

Happiness is being all dressed up and HAVING some place to go.

Been some scary driving

Going between Garland and McKinney (north Dallas metroplex). We have yet to find everyone who was killed in the storms, though the searches continue. I suspect we will have more than one city given federal disaster relief, and they will need it.

Ah Texas, were the bathroom bills are floating in our legislature, and the same folks are trying to figure out how to prevent same sex marriage if the courts rule against them. Where it doesn't matter what your birth certificate says, if you were born with a plumbing problem live with it, gays and transgendered folk don't need to ever get married nohow.

It's because most people here

It's because most people here really don't give a crap. Don't pee on their boots, and they won't kick you with them :)

It really is _mostly_ a live and let live state. Some of the more stupid carpetbaggers that have moved here for jobs cause more problems than the rural rednecks. I mean, you have to actually _go to_ the rural rednecks for them to go after you. They don't take 'gay bashing' trips into the cities.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

It's not the rural rednecks that bug me

Leave them alone withe their guns and beer and they're happy.

It's the religious nuts who think everyone should believe the same myths and legends they do and everyone should follow all of the rules they've decided to follow, sensible or not.

Problem with any religion is...

...that 90% of followers will be religious nuts :-(
Independent of what the teachings say...
All of the Christian religions claim to follow the New Testament.
But all of those ignore the words of Jesus: "love God, love thy neighbor. That are the only commandments"...
No. Every "Christian" religon finds some Old Testament verses that should be followed... Ignoring words of Jesus. And ignoring other verses of the Old Testament where you should honour saturdays, never eat pork, sacrifice a bull every time you sin...
I still try to find "Christian religion" that follows all of the words of Jesus. :-(

Lots of things are floating

Lots of things are floating in Eastern Texas the last week or so.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Thanks

All those I know are safe.

Coincidentally though I did actually visit the Capitol building in Austin today. It wasn't swept downriver. So I suppose the status of our proud state depends on your definition of "Ok."

Texan
what I dont get is a small handful of people blocking what should be our personal rights. I have even convinced my extremely conservative father (82)
that gays should be allowed to marry. After all why should straight folks be the only ones to suffer.

the problem is big business in our state.

MadTech01's picture

With Texas the state senate is controlled by big business, the reason is Texas pays next to nothing to its representatives and they all have other jobs. That and they only meet every other year. Because of that the big companies can exert a lot of influence on our state of Texas. That is why when big oil does not agree with the laws passed in a local district they simply go to the state and have them null and void the law. If you have money in Texas you have power if not you are nobody.

Good point

MadTech01's picture

I guess you have a point, some area's I have been to felt different, but as long as politicians are in charge most are corrupt morons. I just wish more of them would actually stand for the good of the people and not them selves.

The Last time I met a Texan -

The last time I met a Texan (outside Texas that is) he called me a Limey so I called him a Yank. He started to take umbrage until I explained briefly that I was NOT English but Welsh so if he continued calling me a Limey I'd continue calling him a Yank. His reply was, -

"Jeeze! That bad huh?"

I just nodded slowly and he got the message! We then became good friends.

Sorry to hear about the mess over there.
