Here's an interesting development:

Quoting the story:

"Now Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is warning insurance companies that they will no longer be allowed to deny gender reassignment surgery or other treatment to change a person’s gender, like hormone therapy, if a doctor has deemed that treatment medically necessary.

"In a letter being sent to insurance companies this week, the governor said that because state law requires insurance coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders, people who are found to have a mismatch between their birth sex and their internal sense of gender are entitled to insurance coverage for treatments related to that condition, called gender dysphoria.

“'An issuer of a policy that includes coverage for mental health conditions may not exclude coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of gender dysphoria,' the governor’s letter says."

Read the whole thing, and be jealous that our state has a decent governor.

but I have no reason to be jealous, the BC government's ministry of health covers the srs :)

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.

I heard they delisted it a decade or more ago. do you know when they added it back?

Not sure WHEN,

but yeas, I was just approved for the srs, and am just waiting the 3 months for the ministry of health to send me the funding approval.

http://transhealth.vch.ca/

the information and support site for transitioning in BC.

it boils down to:
your GP has you on hormones, for at least 1 year
then refers you to the ministry of health for assessment.
the assessors do a 1 session interview and make their decision
if yes, 3 months for the letter
your GP sends referral to Montreal for the operation, including the letter.
the Montreal clinic sends you information and appointment.
then it is arrange travel / accommodations.
[http://hopeair.ca/ ] free air travel to montreal, once appointment is booked. for the patient only.
