If you're the praying type, I could use some good vibes right now

My mom had to get a rental car while her car is being repaired, which is putting a serous strain on our already tight budget. I'm starting to think I cant afford to get a passport, which means no consult, no SRS, its going to be over for me.

It feels like as soon as something positive happens, something comes along to take it away, and I feel like a rat who navigated the maze only to find out the cheese was plastic ...

I'm so tired .... so very, very tired ...

I need a miracle ...

ah, well.

I don't pray for myself. But I will definitely put several in for you.

A passport is not that expensive.

If you are from the U.S., a passport is not that expensive. It is only a little over a hundred U.S. dollars. And from what I understand, that is a lot cheaper than the other parts of your plan.

Since you are planning to go out of the country, I am guessing you are going by air. And a airplane ticket will likely be more expensive than the passport.

Though, good luck.

Passport Fees

For a basic passport for an adult, the cost is 110 USD and a 35 USD application fee. The other fees, like overnight delivery (the only trackable means of getting your passport back to you) or an expediting fee, will add significantly to the bottom line cost.

Here's the State Department's passport fees page.

Well...

It is the expediting fee that is the real expense. No counting the expediting fee, a plane ticket is still more than getting a passport.

Wow, you guys have it tough. Here we just go to a government office, give them a couple of mugshots and $60, go have lunch and when we return to the office, it's done!

I often feel like that too, Dorothy. If this is a game, it's a shitty game because the rules are not established, the parameters are invisible and whenever you feel something good has come, the RND function keeps throwing bad things at you just because it can. I've pressed that 'quit' button four times, nothing happened. I've been looking for a 'reload' or 'new game' button even until now.

I don't pray, I stopped praying back when I was 20 when that (bearded) guy upstairs kept punishing me for a couple of mistakes of my youth.

I do however, have faith in you, Dorothy. I don't trust God, I trust people. And I trust that you will get through this, one way or another. You're awesome, trust in that. Just keep telling yourself, "I am awesome" or if you prefer, "I am beautiful" and that this will not hurt you. Of course, having a good friend who understands you makes this process a lot easier.

I don't understand

If you had to delay the trip, why couldn't you just reschedule the consult for a later date? Surely it can't be one date or never?
