Mike and Ashley, Chapter 2

Mike and Ashley, Chapter 2 of 9

By Portia Bennett

Introduction: Ashley (Aishling) comes out to her father. He does not seem to be too disturbed; however, he insists that her transition has to be done the right way. They know Ashley’s mother will not be very accepting or helpful. Sean Finlayson finds an appropriate mother substitute for her.

The story is not mine. It is based on a very old tale that might have been part of English/Irish lore, it might be French or German. It might even be Persian in origin. I’ll leave it to you to try to figure out what tale it is. If you think you know, PM me. Don’t spoil it for others.

Although there are characters from other stories who make brief appearances, this is a stand-alone story.

New Story - Mike and Ashley (or Michele and Aishling)

For several years I have wanted to write a story based on an old tale from about a thousand years ago. I had been sitting on it until a week or two ago when my muse gave me a figurative kick in the ass. I quickly wrote a summary of the story and then got to writing it. It has taken me only a week to put together almost 22,000 words of what I think is a very nice story. I'd thought at first it would be a bit longer; however, I think this length was right. I'm interested to see if anyone will identify the ancient story. It is quite popular in some artistic circles.

Mike and Ashley, Chapter 1

By Portia Bennett

Introduction: Michele (Mike) Donatella and Asher (Ash) Finlayson meet the summer before their senior year in high School. Ash is spending the summer with his mother in Brooklyn, NY. His parents are divorced. Mike and Ash hit it off right away. There are some secrets to be learned over the next year. Some won’t be revealed for a long time after that. Some unless you figure it out will not be revealed until the very last paragraph of the last chapter – nine chapters from now.

Beautiful Music

In tonight's posting of Love's Shame, Love's Salvation I introduce a wonderful piece of music (my opinion): Mahler's Second Symphony, The Resurrection. It is a profound work, and I encourage you to listen to it, if only the last movement. I know what they say about opinions; however, in my non-professional music opinion, it ranks among the greatest symphonic works of the late 19th century. Even if you don't read my story, please click on the link(s), sit back, and enjoy.:

Question/Survey - Love's Shame, Love's Salvation

I've been putting links to the important pieces of music mentioned in each posting at the end of the posting. 'Drea has been doing this with her stories for quite a while, and I thought that since I frequently reference music I would put in a link to it so that readers might listen to and hopefully enjoy it.

Does anyone care? Is anyone actually checking out the music? I'll continue to add the links; however, I was curious.

Cynthia and the Christmas Gift - Reposted
Complete

By Portia Bennett

This is a little stand-alone story that eventually became part of a chapter in Cynthia and the High School Years — Part 1. As there are many new readers at this site, I thought they might enjoy another Christmas story. If you enjoy the story and are not familiar with the characters, you might want to read the Cynthia Chronicles.

My Contribution To Christmas Stories

This was my repost of a story I wrote quite a while ago. The last time I posted it was four years ago. I still think it's a nice story that takes place in a universe not much different than ours; just that there's more magic.

Love's Shame, Love's Salvation

I sort of promised I would post my last novel in the California Saga series before the end of the year. Somehow, I managed to do it. It has been a struggle to say the least. It has take nearly a year and a half to write. The problem with writing a story that is happening simultaneously with four other novels is making sure that everything is happening in the right order. Thank heavens I had a pretty good time line to work from.

Simoné and the Second Time Around

Last February 6, I posted Simoné and the Second Time Around. Things didn't start off well as I innocently chose a horrible title. The final title was much better. I am very happy with it. Then misfortune hit BCTS and the site was down for a while. Unfortunately, when the site came back up, most of the kudos and comments were lost. Maybe I'm a comment and kudos whore; however, what I feel is a sweet and very nice story languishes with few Kudos and comments. It looks horrible when put up with my other stories, but I know it's not.

Also Looking For

I believe this is a current, unfinished serial. The main character is a headstrong young lad who gets into a fight of wills with his parents. For some reason he went en fem, and his father defies him to stay that way. Rather than give in to his father he stays in the female mode. He/she had been gradually more at ease with his role. He'd had his hair done several times, but in the last episode I read, he had his hair dyed platinum blonde. I would like to go back to the beginning and follow it to the assumed conclusion.

There's More to Taking The Other Bus than you might think

I had PM'd Karin about some things, and she explained a bit more about the story. I hadn't realized what it was about. It's an interesting allegory. It's quite interesting what she did. If you haven't read it, you should. If you did and missed the allegory like I did, read it again. The clue is the bridge and what was there before.

Seven Year in Nine Weeks

Going over things and erasing persistent log-ins, and noticed I will have been an official member for seven years in just a few weeks. I am still writing, but slowly. I might have the latest novel completed by the end of he year - no promises. I won't say much other than it starts out pretty dark. It complements (with an 'e') The Redhead and the PM but brings out much more that was thought to be hidden but wasn't. My other stories are still there if anyone wants to look them up.

Scattered Notes From a Scattered Mind

I think there are two or three of you out there who might have noticed that I haven’t posted anything in almost six months. It’s interesting how easy it is to slip below the horizon when you are not actively contributing to the literature. It’s not that I haven’t been writing. It’s just that it’s becoming more and more difficult to produce anything more than a few hundred words at a time. I am still working on what may be the last novel in the California Saga series.

A Very Sad Day

I had to go to Wal-Mart a few weeks ago because I can get some things there at a better price. Wal-Mart is never an enjoyable experience, but I endure it. As I was leaving with my stash I heard a voice to my left. "Sir, I will give you a hundred dollars if you will take me to the VA Hospital." He was in his thirties, close cropped hair, and he had a severe limp. His head was scarred. He was thrusting a hundred dollar bill in my direction. He had a large suitcase on rollers. I knew immediately that he was the real thing.

La Donna é Mobile, or I changed my mind (again)

I was never happy with the title of one of my recent stories. I've fussed over this for quite a while. I changed Howard, His Friend, and their Wonderful Journey to Howard and the Completed Pass. I think that's a much more fitting title, and it's a lot shorter. If you haven't read the story, please do. For those that have, nothing was changed in the content, but it's okay to read it again.

If you haven't read it yet, please do and comment. It is my latest addition to the Cynthia Chronicles series of stories. I think it's a sweet tale.

The time frame of heart of this story overlaps the ending of Adam and the Three Wishes and the beginning of Howard and the Completed Pass; however, much of the story takes place many, many years before.

If you are not familiar with the series, you should read An Incremental Journey, Cynthia and the Reluctant Girlfriend, Cynthia and the Dumpster Diver, Cynthia and the Moment of Truth, Cynthia and the High School Years, Parts 1 & 2, Charli and the Man Cave, Adam and the Three Wishes, and The Football Player, His Friend and Their Wonderful Journey. What Is the Name of this Movie

For more than 40 years my wife and I have been trying to figure out the name of a movie we had seen on late night television in Little Rock in the late 60s.. One of the stations stayed on all night. That was a big thing then. After the last late night show was over, they'd play old movies. This was before we started going together. There was a particular movie that we saw several times. It had a music theme that was built around a piano concerto. It may have been Rachmaninoff or Grieg.

Sometimes Things Work Out Right - Non TG

I am sure many of you are aware we are part time antique dealers specializing in silver. We had done shows for about 20 years before my prostate surgery. For the last five years we've been doing only on-line auctions; however, a few months ago we decided to rent a showcase in one of the nicer antique malls in the area. It basically is giving us a chance to sell a rather large accumulated inventory. We had aske the operators of the mall about getting a larger showcase, and a couple of weeks ago one became available. Two weeks ago Saturday we moved our inventory into the larger case.

Trying to avoid a minor disaster.

After listening to many users, I have decided to download Firefox and give it a try. The problem is when I try to find a safe site to use for the download, there are dozens that appear to be legit; however, I found out the hard way that many of these download sites install all sorts of malware and worse on my computer. For those in the know, what site do you recommend. Preferably the official Firefox site. Thanks.

Dealing with disappoinment

I was going through 'My Stories' list today. I do it every day to see if anyone has left a comment. Anyway, I noticed the very poor reception that two of my stories received: Five Love Stories en Brochette, and Bobbie and the Glass Ceiling. The later was about a golf tournament, and I can understand the lack of interest. Unfortunately for those who didn't read it, there was a tremendous amount of information there pertinent to the whole Cynthia Chronicles series. That story required quite a bit of research, and probably took six months to shape up. That's okay.

More than six years ago I discovered BCTS. What a wonderful discovery it was. Because my CRS, I will probably forget to say anything about my sixth anniversary of being an official member of this wonderful place when the time rolls around a few weeks from now. Strike while the iron's hot. It will be six years near the end of this month that I tentively made my first official ventures as a participant here here. I've met some wonderful people. Unfortunately, too many are departed. Thank you everyone for your wonderful contributions. Thank you for reading and commenting on mine.

Soaring With Eagles - The Editing Goes On

Last July I revisited Aviano Air Base north of Venice, Italy. We spent three days driving around the area, and spent one day following The Prosecco Road in the Treviso Province of the Veneto to the west of Aviano. It is beautiful country. We found the vineyards where the grapes of our favorite prosecco are grown. We also learned the hard way about the changes in European cars that have not reached North America. One being that the engine stops when you come to a full stop.

One of Those Days

Today I visited a saw mill in northern Arkansas. If any of you have driven the highway between Conway and Harrison, you've seen the mill. I decided to drive non-stop home and fix a late lunch. US 65 joins Interstate 40 at the north side of Conway. There is a long left turn lane to get onI-40 South. I was stopped about 8-10 feet behind the truck in fron of me when I heard a 'chirp' of tire and was clobbered by a GMC 1500 pickup truck. I was driving a 2012 Chevy Malibu. Guess who won? I was knocked into the Nissan Tundra in front, and his tow bar penetrated my radiator.

Brian's animosity seems to have disappeared almost overnight, and it doesn't take much for both the boys to reach the tipping point. Well, in reality it is quite a bit; however, Randi tends to make things look very easy when they aren't.
