A New Story by Portia Bennett

I had to figuratively kick my muse in the ass and get to work on a story that I've been playing with for nearly a year. Fair warning, I'm sure this story is far more violent than most that I've written. It had to be for the story to work. I assure you it has a happy ending for those for whom it should. Anita is not a lady to mess with, but she does have her soft side. I would say this, don't piss her off. The story is 16 chapters long plus epilogue, and a bit less than 40,000 words.

Anita, Chapter 1

Anita
Chapter 1

By Portia Bennett

Introduction: In a sense there is a connection to this story and several other non-magic stories I’ve written. Two characters from Mike and Ashley show up briefly. They would be Mike and Ashley. This story, Like “Mike and Ashley”, “Discovery”, and “Cynthia and the Queen of Knight” takes its storyline from the work of someone else. In this case, a production by an Italian fellow named Joseph Green. The story is 16 chapters in length plus an epilogue. I’ve done as much tweaking as I can. Any errors are mine and I will gladly accept constructive criticism; as long as you’re nice.

We meet Anita Okoye at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as the trial of a man who drugged and raped her comes to an end. Anita had a stellar military career, and if she had stayed in the service, she probably would have gone very far in her career. However, after a very traumatic assault and rape, she decides to look elsewhere for a career. By the way, Anita is gay, and that is certainly not a negative issue..

Looking For Story/Answers

Not long ago there was a serial story here about a transgender woman who returned home with a child that she had fathered through a surrogate. She was apparently quite well off and was making progress with reconnecting with her family, although some were viciously bigoted and obscenely unfriendly. She had met someone who seemed to be romantically interested.

Then I lost track. I don't know if the story was completed or if the author lost interest. Anyone know what happened? Obviously, I have forgotten the name.

New Story - Marti and the Doppelganger

I have just posted a new story that will appear in 12 installments. Foolishly, I left a number of things unresolved. So I might have to write about them in the future. One of my reasons for writing this new addition to The Cynthia Chronicles was to try to get more readers interested in what I felt was an overlooked story, Simoné and the Second Time Around. The new story answers several unanswered questions from several stories in the series. I hope you enjoy it.

This brings me around to that last story. I thought it was a nice little story full of romance, love and a bit of magic. The story bombed! It had absolutely the worst reception of anything I’d posted at this site. Part of the problem had been a very poor first choice for a title. We won’t go into that. About this story: In Cynthia and the High School Years we learn that Cynthia’s mother was adopted. She’d never taken the time to find out anything about her origin. We learn some other unanswered questions in Simoné and the Second Time Around. I thought I’d try to answer some of those questions; however, I may have left more questions to be answered at a later date. Someone asked me to write a bit more about Marti Lewis, Cynthia’s youngest sister. I thought this was as good an opportunity as any. Marti makes an appearance in Randi and the College Professor

A Thank You and an Advisory

First of all, someone from Canada bought all nine novels in "A California Saga" series. If it was someone who frequents this site, thank you very much. If it wasn't, thanks to those of you who have purchased them.

Secondly, I did some minor editing on The Heart of the Beholder. It wasn't anything serious. I had some problems with word order, and in several places I wrote 'compliment' when I meant 'complement'. I'm not sure, but it seems to me that you should be able to get an updated copy from Amazon. Anyone know for sure?

Discovery

I have great expectations when I submit a story for the scrutiny of the readers; however, I never know how it's going to be received. My latest effort's (Discovery) reception has been very pleasing, especially because the story's background development is going to take seven chapters. Someone commented early on that it seemed a bit slow in developing. I had to do it that way to fill in the background before we get to the part of the story based on an old play and opera. It's been nice to see that the interest hasn't waned much. Thank you for sticking it out.

Introduction: Tommie tells her sister about meeting a real witch and The Wizard. Elaine’s not too sure what to believe. We also learn one other thing. Tommie can converse with his cat. Does this sound familiar?

This story is another addition to The Cynthia Chronicles. Cynthia (Cindy) Brewer has graduated from medical school, and is well into her residency. The Wizard has difficulty remembering exactly where she is in her studies. Randi Lewis at age 18 is starting work on her Master of Science in Chemistry (read Randi and the Professor), and Charli Brewer will soon be a freshman in pre-med at UConn. Bobbie Anderson is setting the golf world on fire having now won tournaments on the PGA in addition to her many victories on the LPGA. This story takes place a year before Bobbie and the Glass Ceiling. If you are not familiar with the stories that make up the Cynthia Chronicles, you might want to go back to the beginning with An Incremental Journey. There are references to Cynthia and the Reluctant Girlfriend and Charli and the Girl Cave. If you don’t remember what happened in those stories, you might want to go back and read them again. This story also takes place just a few months before Cynthia and the Queen of the Knight.

Cynthia and the Dropped Ball, Chapter 2 of 7

Introduction: We have met Tommie who seems to be a very well-adjusted young boy going to be a girl. She has a great support group behind her as she starts her transition. Cindy realizes very quickly who Tommie is, and her full name, sister’s name, and picture confirms her suspicions. The Wizard seems to be a bit Laissez-faire about the whole thing, and that perplexes Cindy.

Cynthia and the Dropped Ball, Chapter 1

Introduction: For this little bit of fluff we go back only a couple of months before Cynthia and the Queen of the Knight. Over the years that these tales about Cynthia Brewer (nee Lewis) have appeared there have been a number of loose ends. We have met people, many the victims of The Wizard’s magic, and then we hear nothing more about them. A prime example is Charli and the Girl Cave. Charlie Donizetti’s parents as well as his aunt and uncle were brutally murdered during a robbery, leaving Charlie an orphan. Also orphaned were his two cousins. Other than a brief mention that the cousins had been sent to an orphanage in western Connecticut, we know nothing about their fate. Now is the time to find out what their fate was. The Wizard is up to his usual tricks.

A Little Favor, Please

While trying to beat my brain into activity I read the wonderful comments many of you wrote for the novels in the nine volume California Saga series. The stories now on Amazon.com have been selling steadily but slowly; however, the only reviews, two very nice ones by the way, were for "The Heart of the Beholder." I'm hoping that some of you who enjoyed the series would write a few reviews. You certainly don't need to buy the books, but remember to link through this site so that BCTS gets a little bit, if you do.

I Seem To Remember A Story

... about a gender confused boy who when turning 18 finds a rather domineering girl friend who quickly convinces him he should try being a woman, which she feels he is better suited. Her father is a tattoo artist and her mother is an MD who starts him quickly towards his friend's and his? goal. Did I miss something or is the story just wallowing towards incompletion. I don't remember the name or author. I'd like to catch up. Any ideas out there?
