Dreams

Dreams can be fun. Dreams can be bothersome. I am very fortunate that I seldom have nightmares. I don’t think I have ever had a night terror. Most of my dreams start out of nowhere and fade into nowhere. Many involve my life in the military and the jobs I had. They are never unpleasant. I also have dreams that involve the work I have done since I retired from the military. I worked In loss control for insurance companies. It was interesting work, and I was good at it. I also dream about making love to wonderful women, including my wife of more than 50 years.

Re: The Shooting in Nashville

Yes, it is about guns, but this goes far deeper than that. This was a trans girl/woman who was forced to go to this school to 'straighten her out' from her dysphoria. I imagine she was tortured by those 'Christians' on a daily basis. Such a shame, when the proper treatment and counseling might have left us with a well-adjusted young woman.

The Magic Flute

Been listening to the MET's Christmas version of the Mozart's The Magic Flute. I have always enjoyed this opera and we actually saw it performed in Vienna. I decided many years ago to see if I could adapt the story for this site. I did, and I think it worked out quite well. I wove the very famous but archaic Adventure Game into it. The story is "Cynthia and the Queen of Knight." Take a look at it. You might find it very enjoyable. It is part of the "Cynthia Chronicles."

Me and Avoiding the Draft

Me and Avoiding the Draft

Okay, I know I wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. And, yes I know the title of this little tale is in very poor English. I’m a bit smarter now, and actually have two college degrees, but they didn’t come easily.

A Hackneyed Tale of Serious Gravity, Chapter 6

Posted the last chapter a little while ago. I had fun writing it, and it basically came about because I asked myself what would I wish for if I found the "Genie". My wish would be what Ted/Sandy wished for. I did leave some things open for an additional story or two. I did mention some people that didn't "belong" there. Why were they there, and how did they get there?

A Hackneyed Tale of Serious Gravity, Chapter 6

By Portia Bennett

Introduction: I’m sure everyone has come across a story or two about someone finding that bottle or lamp that after the appropriate action releases a genie who will grant a certain number of wishes for the lucky person who happens to find it. Quite frequently, the person finding the genie doesn’t read the ‘fine print’ and the results are frequently not what the person making the wishes desired. The greedy and the dishonest seem to get the worst of it. In the case of this story, I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Time flies when you’re having fun. Our two lovers have been married for 10 years; 10 very happy years, I might add. Now we are back in the town where Sandy’s adventure began. Rick had some business there, and the entire family came along. They were seeing America. Then Maxie showed up.

Well, it’s back to the big date. Without question, Sandy is looking forward to it. She’s still a bit puzzled about why she is so looking forward to it. Becky puts it in very simple terms. Sandy is growing up.

Apparently, Becky was not too upset about finding out about Sylvia. It certainly had to have been a surprise, but obviously things did work out. At least our narrator thought they had.

Back to the present, sort of. Rick has shaken Sandy to the core. Everything she thought about herself is eroding away, and rather quickly, I might add. Yet, she cannot find anything in the original wish that would indicate why this is happening to her.

We are going to take a bit of a trip back in time; not too far. Maybe this will help us make some sense about what’s going on.

New, Original Story. Maybe There's Still Something Left Afterall

Based on a little "What If" scenario, I decided to attempt to write a new story. Surprisingly, it took only a couple months to complete. I imagine some will pick up on what's going on right away. I am being deliberately vague in the first chapter, but all will be clear, hopefully, after second chapter. There are six chapters in all, and the story is a bit over twelve thousand words. I would rate it a mild PG. Things are seldom as they seem. Skim milk masquerades as cream.

I'm Back - Sorta

As far as new stories go, I'm in the midst of setting up a story in my mind, but haven't put the pen to paper at this time. I have been doing a lot of proofing of my older stories as I intend to publish them during the next year. I'm thinking of reposting some of the stories that make up the Cynthia Chronicles here. I feel a couple of them are pretty good and will leave the readers feeling good. Besides working on my antique business, I don't have much else to do. I retired completely at the beginning of the pandemic.

Floria - Sorry for the Confusion

Several folks commented or messaged that the ending of Floria confused them. Were they dead or were they alive, and if they were, how did they pull it off. Perhaps I was being a bit to obscure. Let me assure you, Geno, Andy, and Floria were quite dead The answer was the name of the establishment where they were going for dinner: The Elysian Bar and Grill. These are Italians, remember.

Floria - Most Likely My Swan Song

I have just posted "Floria". This will probably my last story posted here and elsewhere. I had posted four other stories that were taken from well known operas. They were "The Queen of the Night", "Anita", "Discovery", and "Mike and Ashley." They had happy endings but I had to do some significant finagling in two of them to make them end up that way' It wasn't going to happen with "Floria".

Chapter 1

Andy knew things weren’t going well for his best friend, but he wasn’t ready for the phone call he received late that night. He was doing a bit of work on his computer, alright, gaming, when his phone buzzed. He didn’t think the spammers would be calling at 1:00 AM, but you never could tell.

It wasn’t spam, it was his high school buddy, Benny (Beniamino) Fiorito. “Hey Benny, what’s up? Isn’t it a bit late to be calling?”

The Venus Lily - A MEPS98 tale on TG Comics and Stories

MEPS98 posted two fantastic novels on this site a few years ago. One was "Severance Pay" and the other was "5 Hertz of Separation". Both stories were quite long and well thought out to their satisfying conclusions. Meps98 just last week published another novel on TG Comics and Stories, "The Venus Lily" is a novel written in the film noir style and has some really great black and white illustrations. Take a look at it. It's well worth the price.

The Cynthia Chronicles - La commedia è finita!

About 10 ½ years and 500,000 words ago I posted “An Incremental Journey” here; since retitled in my files as “Cynthia and the Incremental Journey.” I have changed several other titles as time has gone by. “Cynthia and the Reluctant Girlfriend” followed. We found out about Bobby Schmedlap at the very end of the previous story. Cynthia Lewis had been Alfred Gontarski, a very unpleasant, overweight man with no social skills, who just happened to be transgender. Bobby Schmedlap had all the support he could want from his family; however, they were living in near poverty.

A number of months ago I posted story that probably went bit too far. It wasn't the TG content. It was my expressing my discontent with the current political situation in the US. I also went into great detail about the genetics of magic, trying to keep it as realistic as possible. This was not important for my stories. The readers didn't really care about this; however. it was important for the construction of the stories. The readers just didn't need to know the details. These stories aren't a Perry Mason crime story. They are just stories.

Cynthia and the Wonderful Corrections - Chapter 2

By Portia Bennett

Introduction: This story is the fourth and final story in a series within a series. The overall series is the “Cynthia Chronicles”. This story is directly connected to “Simoné and the Second Time Around”, “Marti and the Doppelganger”, and Marti and the Doppelganger – a Follow Up”. Several of the stories in the Cynthia Chronicles left some unanswered questions. In “Bobbie and the Glass Ceiling” two of the antagonists are regressed to childhood. Now we will learn what happened to them. In “Randi and the College Professor” Randi and Frank Deere adopt Betty, a bit of a rogue witch. Betty was regressed to early childhood, but she kept her powers. As it turns out, Betty was a real blessing. We also learn a bit more about Cindy’s first born who is the first new wizard in probably close to a thousand years. Then there is a question that has been floated about. What about death?

Remember Betty? She was the young witch who tried to break up the romance between Randi Lewis and Frank Deere. She didn’t know there were other witches and had never had any formal training until she found a book of programmed learning for witches. She doesn’t understand her power and makes some significant, far reaching mistakes. Betty is given a second chance, and now she is the adopted daughter of the two people she tried to break apart. Things are going quite well as we shall see.

Bobbie’s professional golf career is over and now she has a four-year old daughter and a newborn. Cindy and Don are not only raising their firs born, but have also officially adopted Martin and Joann who are only a few months older than their first born. Things are getting interesting.

Computer Crashed

A few days ago my computer gave a few clicks of death and decided to go into a coma. Fortunately, we've managed to save the hard drive well enough to transfer the contents to a new computer. The transfers are in progress. At this point, we think we can recover everything. Should be interesting.

CHAPTER 10 – Getting Close to Graduation at the CIA

By Portia Bennett

Introduction: This story is the third, the penultimate, in a series within a series. The overall series is the “Cynthia Chronicles”. This story is directly connected to “Simoné and the Second Time Around” and “Marti and the Doppelganger”. The latter left many unanswered questions. Some of those will be answered, some probably not. There are many references to previous stories in the series. If you are confused by some of them, just put it off to my senility. The Cynthia Chronicles takes place in a universe very similar to ours. Unfortunately, it might be too similar.

For any who read “Myrna and the Genetic Disaster”, this is the same story, only with the political rantings and scientific explanations removed. There may also have been a few edits and additions.

This is the tenth part of ten. I had considered reorganizing the last few chapters of the story as there is quite a bit of skipping around and going back and forth in time. I decided the heck with it and left them as they were.

We will see how things go with Tammie and Wanda. Their relationship is one made in heaven. At least some would find that metaphor appropriate. Sydney and Marshall Hendricks find love rather quickly. We will learn a lot more about them in the next story.
